A simple nudge to stop staff “stealing” cutlery – Behaviour Change
https://chrisnorfield.wordpress.com/2014/08/07/a-simple-nudge-to-stop-staff-stealing-cutlery
An occasional blog on behaviour change for health. A simple nudge to stop staff “stealing” cutlery. By focusing on ‘making it easier’ rather than ‘awareness raising’ we succeeded in increasing the number of pieces of cutlery returned by staff to a cafe by 1,400% with a simple nudge. Here at the London Borough of Hounslow we have a nice cafe on site, which does eat-in and takeaway food. There are about 2,000 staff in the building and lots use the cafe for lunch. An occasional blog on behaviour change for health. 4 things the Grand National tells us about how we make decisions. I’m not an avid reader of the Racing Post, and don’t follow weekly horse racing meets. In fact I will usually quickly switch channel if I happen upon racing coverage. Exploring the Intersection of Behavioral Economics, Law, and Policy. Why Nudge isn’t Soft Paternalism. I’ve stumbled across a few articles and pages categorizing nudges as soft paternalism ( here. But I’m not convinced that nudge is soft paternalism. Let’s take a closer look. Soft paternalism has its genesis with none other than John Stuart Mill, the father of anti-paternalism. Exploring the Intersection of Behavioral Economics, Law, and Policy. The Peculiar Paternalism of Nudge. Nudges are a peculiar brand of paternalism. As I wrote elsewhere. Nudges aren’t really instances of soft paternalism. But there’s something else that makes nudge paternalism odd: the substituted rational judgment standard. Let’s take a closer look. We can call this classic paternalism best interest paternalism. Or welfarist paternalism . At first blush, this isn’t much different; it’s still focused on ...

Exploring the Intersection of Behavioral Economics, Law, and Policy. Nudging Without Choice Architecture? In this post, I’m going to illustrate the many different ways behavioural insights are used in policy and ask the question whether we can have nudges without choice architecture?
