Chris Priestley: November 2013

http://chrispriestley.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 6 November 2013. On Halloween evening I took part in a Reading Agency panel event at Swiss Cottage library with Susan Cooper, Sally Gardner and Geraldine McCaughrean, chaired by Clive Barnes of IBBY UK. I had been looking forward to this event for a long time as I am a great admirer of all three writers and Susan Cooper rarely visits the UK. All three turned out to be very good company. I read Susan Cooper's THE DARK IS RISING. Susan's new book is GHOST HAWK. Geraldine McCaughrean has also fea...

Chris Priestley: Before the law

http://chrispriestley.blogspot.com/2014/09/before-law.html

Wednesday, 10 September 2014. Recently there has been one of those Facebook list things - where someone writes a list and then nominates three other people who write a list and nominate.and so on. The subject of the list this time has been '10 books that have stayed with you'. I can't remember when I first read Franz Kafka's The Trial. The book has stayed with me like a half-remembered dream and the beginning is a favourite of mine:. With a butcher's knife. This kind of bleakness has given Kafka a re...

Chris Priestley: September 2013

http://chrispriestley.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, 29 September 2013. I drove back from Lancaster yesterday morning. I enjoy a long drive through the British landscape providing there are no major hold-ups and the weather is not too hideous. This particular journey was very smooth and the sun was shining most of the time. For providing the books and moral support. It was my first school visit with The Dead Men Stood Together. And that is always a little nerve-jangling. Thank you to Lancaster Grammar for making it such a good start. Of the Departm...

Fiona Dunbar: 11-Dec-2009

Friday, 11 December 2009. Saving the best bit till the end, so DON'T MISS IT! I was looking for a nice Christmassy picture to put here, and came across this, which made me giggle: I especially like the 'too dumb to win an award' sticker. Looks like a fun stocking-filler. So, what have I been up to? I've been going to the dentist a lot. This one is from a column by the late Miles Kington. Called "Let's Parler Franglais". 8211; which is why I put in a caption in Franglais, a language he devised that could.

Being trained up in the derek I should go. Seeking life wherever it is expressed. If some people in the military feel disrespectd by your actions isn’t that legitimate?
