Shortly before 11am, I zipped up my luggage, tied my shoes tight, checked out of the hotel, walked to the metro, rode back to the airport, said "goodbye," and got on my flight bound to Paris, then Canada (on Canada Day - how perfect! Before I go, here are few notes that I've scribbled in my journal over the past week that I'll never forget:. Don't flush the toilet paper. Put it in the garbage. And, some final words of wisdom:.

Christanbul 2010: Day 8: Kariye Museum and the Fener

http://christanbul2010.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-8-kariye-museum-and-fener.html

Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Day 8: Kariye Museum and the Fener. We even caught a glimpse of an ancient aqueduct that wasn't even mentioned in my book (perhaps the aqueduct bringing water to the Basilica Cistern? After about 30 minutes on the bus we arrived at our destination - Kariye Muzesi. For the rest of the day, we simply walked around the Fener. This tiny, unassuming church is the only. Remaining, functioning Greek Orthodox church that was not converted into a mosque, by special decree of Mehmet II....

Christanbul 2010: Day 2: Getting settled

http://christanbul2010.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-2-getting-settled.html

Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Day 2: Getting settled. Just after 8:00am, we arrived in Paris, stretched our legs, and then boarded our connecting flight to Istanbul International Ataturk Airport. Then, after flying twelve hours (total) and seven time zones, we arrived in Istanbul. We got our travel visas ($95 TL), went through customs, and collected out baggage. It's super easy, and super cheap - $1.50 TL per trip (that's about $1 CDN! The major feature of the balcony was the view of Aya Triada Church. And w...

Christanbul 2010: Day 3: Exploring the neighbourhood

http://christanbul2010.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-3-exploring-neighbourhood.html

Thursday, June 24, 2010. Day 3: Exploring the neighbourhood. Meet our personal alarm clock: a rooster who lived below us in the Aya Triada Church courtyard. Our mornings always started with a delicious breakfast. Some bologna, a hard-boiled egg, olives, peynir (cheese), tomato, cucumber, and fresh bread with a variety of spreads. But the best part of waking up was Turkish çay. Tea - pronounced like "chai"):. Turkish ice cream) - delicious! We walked down Istiklal Avenue. And the Golden Horn waterway.

Christanbul 2010: Day 9: One last look

http://christanbul2010.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-9-one-last-look.html

Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Day 9: One last look. Morning, we headed back down towards the Bazaars and bought a few things, including Turkish Delight, and pistachios! I even managed to barter with a salesman and get him down to more than half his original price on one gift! Once all my Turkish lira were spent (pretty close), we started packing and organizing. For dinner, we returned to Melekler for one last kebab plate. And just like that, the day was gone. This blog is dedicated to my recent.

Cooking Up A Storm With Christopher: Turkish Coffee

http://cookingupastormwithchristopher.blogspot.com/2011/04/cooking-with-christopher-turkish-coffee.html

Friday, April 29, 2011. For some reason, it's been kind of a coffee week on the blog. So I thought I'd round out the week and show how to make one of my favourite caffeinated beverages, Turkish coffee. After trying Türk kahvesi. For the first time on my recent trip to Istanbul. Hers's what you'll need. To prepare Turkish coffee, you will need one of these little pots called a cezve. Coffee. This blend is roasted, ground and packaged in the heart of Istanbul (right beside the Spice Bazaar. Once you have t...

Women's history since 1775-1963. Thursday, May 5, 2011. Facebook is one of the places for networking with family and friends; for people who have their own business, Facebook allows them to tell the world about their business. People have an account on Facebook, have them express what's on their minds, and their various interests on Facebook; a person could also write their profile and express certain things about themselves. The Patriot Act has some particular interest to internet users especially for p...

Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Be warned: Draft article from 1/25/08, 7:55 AM - incomplete and rough. Writing about the character of a place is akin to doing the same for music; you can't get the sound from a story in a magaziiiiiiineeeeee -or the adrenaline rush of Tantric Turkish Traffic. With that in mind, let's turn our eye to that egalitarian conduit of danger and desire, the street. With this picture. There will be a quiz, so look close:.
