I have painted them both from life, setting up my easel in front of the subject and painting what I can see. Challenge Paintings Five And Six. Challenge Paintings Five And Six. Here are paintings five and six of the painting challenge. The first painting is of the small area of farmland between Christchurch city and the estuary. Port hills and grazing cows. You have lost control of this one its time to pack it in! Looking at the painting now I see the washes are nice and clean and I feel there is room to go darker in places and lift out some colour here for highlights – so there is room to improve things.

Here is the materials list for your workshop day. The first eleven items should apply to all mediums. You will need to bring your own easel. A selection of painting supports (at least three). Good big brushes and a rigger. Rags or handy towels. A brush wash jar with a lid or bucket for water mediums. Fine mist water sprayer for watercolours or acrylics. Note book and pen. Warm cloths suitable for painting. Mininium of three primaries and white. Big tube of Taitanium white. Thalo blue (green shade).

The training on perspective for example I use when setting up a still life painting, or when painting buildings in the landscape. I found out painting is never easy.
