In 1998, Brother Pat Lynch, chaplain at Parklea Correctional Centre in NSW Australia,. Requested some devotionals for prison inmates to read. It was from this humble request that the heart of Christian Literature Outreach was birthed. Since then we have become increasingly aware of the need for suitable biblical-based Christian resources to be available to all inmates incarcerated in Australia and New Zealand. Presently we supply resources to Correctional and Juvenile Justice Centres located in all Australian states, ACT and New Zealand. Our resources include:. The Word for Today' monthly devotional. Our Daily Bread' monthly devotional. EveryDay with Jesus' monthly devotional. A wide range of Radio Bible Class Discovery Series booklets - over 100 titles including topics such as character building, anger and violence management. A free bible available to all inmates who complete and return a 'reply paid' card.

RECRUITMENT and TRAINING OF FIVE8 VOLUNTEERS. Five8 volunteers must be reasonably well balanced and established in a local church. They must be teachable yet of reasonably strong character, they should not have a desire to peddle their own wares nor should they have an intention to educate the prisoner as to the error of his or her ways. They’ve already figured that if they have been accepted as a Five8 core member! If you have had experience in mentoring or pastoral care, it would be an advantage.

Information and Basic Training Day. Five8 (which means ‘my mate’ in rhyming prison slang) is a new initiative which builds small pro-social communities of support and accountability for prisoners assisting their transition into the community and reducing reoffending. Five8 advocates a whole-of-community response to the effective rehabilitation of offenders. A training Session is likely to be run at the beginning of July 2013. TBC. Jack was born to a drug addict mother and alcoholic father. His mother left when he was 3 years old and his father abandoned him when he was only 12 leaving him to raise his younger brother on the streets. Peter’s parents came from the Philippines and started to build home and a family in Sydney.
