Speaker for the Silent

Speaker for the Silent. Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Pieces in the Wind. How did we come to this? I now understand why people say, "it just didn't work out between us." Sometimes the problems are so varied and confusing and sad that you can't do any better than a vague and cliche statement. But I'll try to do better. And sure, you had flaws. I knew that from the start. Demonstrative, arrogant, foolish, selfish, needy, vain. But wasn't I all those things, too? And you made a mistake. Your mother used to sa...

Speaker for the Silent: Snowfall in a rainstorm

http://christinadaae.blogspot.com/2016/03/snowfall-in-rainstorm.html

Speaker for the Silent. Friday, March 25, 2016. Snowfall in a rainstorm. Although I’ve made plenty of mistakes, when I married Abel Cunningham, I knew it was the best decision I had ever made, and the farthest thing possible from a mistake. He was tender and kind, smart and funny. Sure we had our share of disagreements, but doesn’t everyone? Besides, we always made up and usually we were laughing together an hour later. I remember so clearly the day that everything changed. I got the call around noon.

Speaker for the Silent: October 2015

http://christinadaae.blogspot.com/2015_10_01_archive.html

Speaker for the Silent. Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Now That You're Gone. You played a hand full of stinging words and hours spent shutting me out. I always wondered why you hated me. Was it a misdirected loathing meant for your parents? Perhaps I'll never know, now that you're gone. Unfinished puzzles always bother me, especially when the last piece was a heart. Why is it, do you think, that some of the most beautiful people always seem to make some of the worst choices? I'm sorry I wasn't there. Whe...

Speaker for the Silent: Rainstorms and Ducks

http://christinadaae.blogspot.com/2016/09/attending-church-withoutmy-husband-is.html

Speaker for the Silent. Sunday, September 25, 2016. I smiled at him, though I doubted that he would talk to me. I was surprised. 8220;Nice day,” he commented. His voice was almost too soft for me to hear, though with some straining I could. I studied the grey cloth of his suit and the way it hung too large on his thin, meek, elderly frame. I smiled again and nodded. 8221; he asked. He nodded. “Your family here? 8221; he asked. Rain made its way down one of the half windows near the ceiling of the basemen...

Speaker for the Silent: December 2015

http://christinadaae.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html

Speaker for the Silent. Sunday, December 6, 2015. I gave my order - always the same order for a girl who finds a certain comfort in repetition. But when I drove up to pay for and accept my coffee, my routine was broken. In the background of the busy coffee shop, wearing a uniform and making my hot drink, I thought I saw the profile of a girl I once knew. This was the girl who was found by a dozen young men in the worst of places, all of whom owned the worst of intentions. When she turned to bring my coff...

Speaker for the Silent: Bonnie and Clyde and Love and Disgust

http://christinadaae.blogspot.com/2016/10/bonnie-and-clyde-and-love-and-disgust.html

Speaker for the Silent. Wednesday, October 5, 2016. Bonnie and Clyde and Love and Disgust. It isn't fair. But then, I suppose, nothing ever really is. She threw him a wink, he smiled back and together they danced to the beginning of the end. But I know that's just bitterness and I shouldn't allow it. It's just that bitterness is an easy and welcome bed to lie in for a time. I guess the problem is that the whole situation makes me a little sick, and it seems foolish to take sides in a war that honest to h...
