The Black Square 1915 →. November 3, 2014. Le bonheur de vivre (The Joy of Life). The joy of life, 1906, painted by Matisse is thought to be the greatest fauve painting done. It is a large scale depicting an Arcadian landscape and a celebration of womanhood, as you see nude women and couples embracing themselves. The use of bold colours, creates a dramatic contrast but is also so unrealistic in regard to the true colours- such as is grass truly bright yellow? The Black Square 1915 →. The Black Square 1915.
