De boeken gaan over kinderen die een ziekte hebben die niet vanzelf overgaat, zoals diabetes of epilepsie. Dat heet een chronische ziekte. Ik heb je boek in een keer uitgelezen en net met een zucht in de trein - na een bezoekje aan mijn moeder - dichtgedaan. De herkenning is groot en geeft steun. Het is fijn om te weten dat er iemand is die weet hoe het is. Dit zou ook een goed boek zijn voor verzorgenden en verpleegkundigen in opleiding. Een aanrader om te gaan lezen, ik had het boek binnen een dag uit.

Als dochter en mantelzorger kwam ik in een maalstroom aan gebeurtenissen terecht. Mijn moeder (77) overleed in 2005. Mijn hoofd is hol. Voor uitgeverij De Vier Windstreken. Vertaal ik ook prentenboeken. Ik krijg daarvoor een prentenboek in het Duits of Engels thuisgestuurd en vertaal het dan in het Nederlands. Ik vind vertalen erg leuk werk, al is het soms lastig. In een andere taal zitten de zinnen anders in elkaar en de manier van vertellen is ook vaak anders. Als je de Nederlandse vertaling leest, moet je niet kunnen merken dat het boek eerst in een andere taal is geschreven. Schaapje, schaapje, heb je mooie wol?
