This work deals with the humbling and menacing power of nature on an urban environment. I explore the paradox that exists between the awesome destructiveness of this power and its remarkable beauty.

The rust and rusted objects are the medium as well as the content of this work. The work is concerned with remnants of our culture. Objects left by the side of the road, left on the banks of the river, protruding out of Lake Michigan things that had a purpose in the past but now are left to be reclaimed by nature, ie. water, wind, sun, ice. The work is a combination of media that include graphite, acrylic paint and rusted found objects that deposit rust on the paper, imprinting it.

Christine Worley’s artwork is a synthesis of photography and painting, with occasional forays into installation. The work is concerned with the impermanance of the hand of humans vs. the overwhelming power of nature. Maps, acrylic paint, ink, graphite, salt and found rusted objects are the media with which she expresses these ideas. Photographs document where she finds her sources of subject and colors for the paintings.
