The two styles I have viewed, roughly half a century apart both provide a unique perspective for documentary film making. Potemkin’s visual style of focus on objects, faces and events could prove extremely versatile when applied to the OCD theme we have chosen for our documentary. Over the last few weeks we received some negative comments about the film we were trying to make. Our way of using cutaways and reconstructions came under fire, but I’m not sure what people understood what we are trying to do. After filming and putting a first cut together, we showed it in our workshop, expecting similar levels of criticism. Develop more of a style.
