Dealing with the loss of a child. | Loons Cry
https://christophermorrisblog.wordpress.com/2014/07/13/dealing-with-the-loss-of-a-child
A writer's journey through the North American Wilderness and other musings…. Poems – 1978 – 2013. Dealing with the loss of a child. I can’t believe how long it has been since my last post but sometimes events take over and things ‘take a back seat’. When Aoife was born the midwives at St. Michael’s Hospital in Bristol were amazing. They gave us a memory box donated by Sands. As a writer I have expressed my feeling through words and here is one of the first poems about the girl I never knew. At 18 give a ...
What makes a monster? | Loons Cry
https://christophermorrisblog.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/what-makes-a-monster
A writer's journey through the North American Wilderness and other musings…. Poems – 1978 – 2013. What makes a monster? Robert de Niro in Frankenstein. He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.’. As writers we are tasked with telling stories and creating an emotional response in the reader to a situation and character, but what happens when we need to write about something disturbing? This is why I thi...
He’s behind you – The Great British Pantomime | Loons Cry
https://christophermorrisblog.wordpress.com/2013/12/19/hes-behind-you-the-great-british-pantomime
A writer's journey through the North American Wilderness and other musings…. Poems – 1978 – 2013. He’s behind you – The Great British Pantomime. Outside the English streets are grey and dark. Raindrops clatter car roofs, rhythmically tapping time. Huddled against the approaching night. Fresh faces appear shrouded in scarves and hats. As hounds at the leash the children bustle to the door. The pied piper has already played his tune. Magic has taken over. Disbelief will be shed. The rustling of wrappers.

Complete turnaround | What Comes, Is Called
https://kilongfellow.wordpress.com/2013/03/25/complete-turnaround
What Comes, Is Called. 03/25/2013 at 8:07 am ( Uncategorized. Flow Down Like Silver. I can’t fool myself. Like any writer, I’d like to think at least a few people are reading what I write. But as a novelist I struggle with a huge disadvantage, one that few writers overcome. I can’t write the same book over and over. I can’t even work in the same genre. Write the same book over and over is someone who gets read. Someone who writes in at least the same genre over and over gets read. So then what do I do?
The Columnist on #nomakeupselfie – The Columnist
https://the-columnist.com/2014/03/24/the-columnist-on-nomakeupselfie
My life and other disasters…. The Columnist on #nomakeupselfie. Unlike the previous craze of the #neknomination. The last couple of days has seen our news feed becoming inundated with the #nomakeupselfie. I hadn’t initially heard of it as an official campaign, and that’s because it wasn’t (official that is). In fact, Cancer Research. Aren’t too sure how the craze began, but one thing is for certain they certainly are not complaining about it. Over 2 million was raised in the first 48 hours! Isn’t just a ...

The Columnist returns – The Columnist
https://the-columnist.com/2014/02/25/the-columnist-returns
My life and other disasters…. After an extended sabbatical from The Columnist due to a number of extraneous variables including work, pregnancy and getting married,I thought it was about time I dust off the blogging cobwebs. As a 30 year old woman, I’m sure this is all pretty normal, but then there’s the question of whether you can. I aim for 2 litres of water, regular exercise and 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. I stick to this religiously until I get drunk. February 25, 2014. Enter your comment here.
What I’d say to twenty year old me… – The Columnist
https://the-columnist.com/2013/07/15/what-id-say-to-twenty-year-old-me
My life and other disasters…. What I’d say to twenty year old me…. I can remember my 20. Birthday like it was yesterday. It wasn’t. It was TEN YEARS AGO. It pains me to admit that a decade has just whizzed by, without permission I may add, and left me here on the cusp of thirty, what I consider to be ‘real’ adulthood. But unless a miraculous turn of events occurs in the next 96 hours, I’m not entirely convinced that maturity will rear its ugly head anytime soon. Don’t go out with anyone just because peop...
Accepting my husband’s ‘Maleness’ – The Columnist
https://the-columnist.com/2014/04/11/accepting-my-husbands-maleness
My life and other disasters…. Accepting my husband’s ‘Maleness’. This post was originally published on Huffington Post UK. As a feminist, my attitudes towards the gender balance has significantly shifted in recent months. Here’s why:. There is a difference between finding balance in a relationship and being equal. How can he possibly find the football more interesting than this chapter that I’ve just read on whether to swaddle or not? He was a man! Hmm… was he right? Which brings me to the conclusion tha...
The Columnist on Celebrity Magazines – The Columnist
https://the-columnist.com/2013/09/16/the-columnist-on-celebrity-magazines
My life and other disasters…. The Columnist on Celebrity Magazines. I love magazines. But I do prefer them to actually have some content. That’s not too much to ask as a paying customer, is it? I personally believe that they should have writers rather than just a giant wallet, ready to pay paparazzi for photos of ‘celebrities’ on holiday. The final straw for me was when I was flicking through a magazine and came across a double page spread of one image: Paris Hilton’s toe. The caption (the only words...
The 10 things I miss most from before I was pregnant – The Columnist
https://the-columnist.com/2014/03/28/the-10-things-i-miss-most-from-before-i-was-pregnant
My life and other disasters…. The 10 things I miss most from before I was pregnant. I have 8 weeks and 4 days until my due date. Not that I’m counting or anything Obviously the main motivation for the countdown is that we get to meet our daughter, but there are a few other things that I’m really starting to miss after 7 months of being knocked up. 1 Wine and other alcoholic beverages. 3 Staying up past 10.30pm. It’s just not possible anymore. 4 Sleeping right through the night. I have to pee a lot. They ...
