Images and Words: Process. Art Journaling Tuscany 2013- WOW! September 20, 2013 1 Comment. The mad art journalers in the Journaling Palace, Tuscany 2013. What an incredibly powerful journey we had in Tuscany this month. Everyone got really into their journals and even skipped some destinations just to work in the “Journaling Palace” , our stone-walled wine cellar overlooking the Val D’Orcia in Tuscany. My students really took things to heart and enjoyed journaling at cafes in the small medieval villages ...

Images and Words: Process. November 9, 2011 4 Comments. Some of my Art Journals. What is visual journaling, or art journaling? The terms are used interchangeably). Many people ask me this question when I tell them that I teach workshops in it. I truly enjoy keeping a visual journal, and it is as much a part of my studio practice as my sketchbook, and of my personal daily practice as my regular journal. So really it is a combination of the two. Yet, it is more. A Student's Journal Spread. I’ve enjoy...

My latest painting in the series is “Twelve and Twelve More”, a 10″x10″x1 5/8″ oil/mixed media painting on panel. Erika Allison's Artastic Blog. Breaking the rules… or not. Laquo; Painting in a Series. Mixed Media – What? Posted Friday, May 4th, 2012. Posted in Original artwork. I like a good title. It makes me try to connect the title with the artwork. I wonder what it means. I look at the work, see what I see…and sometimes wonder what it was that the artist saw. Does the title spell out exactly what it means? Or, does the title pique your interest and make you wonder what the painting is about? What does it mean?

Now, for the fun! Make them, of course! I cut out circles of metal and punched holes with my paper punch. I wasn’t sure if the paper punch would be strong enough to do the trick, but I got lucky. Then, I had to install them. I used double point tacks. The painting has meaning to me. Maybe it does for you, too.

Humanistic Psychotherapy and Counselling. Life is not what it’s supposed to be. It’s what it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference. There are times when we feel that our lives are in crisis; and times when we feel dissatisfied with the quality of our day to day experience. It is my experience that psychotherapy and counselling can be powerfully effective in helping us to make positive changes in our lives, as a result of our gaining deeper self-knowledge and increased self-esteem.

I can't play the bassoon. I won't dance. (Don't ask me.). I'm not a cobbler. I know nothing about keeping bees. I won't lie to you. There are a lot of things I can't do. Those I can do. Those I've been doing for a long time. Take a look around. If there's anything I can do for you, get in touch. Depending on what we're talking about, that is. Because I'm not a botanist. And I don't know how to fix a carburetor.

Archaeology of the Subconscious. I am interested in investigating marks, shapes and words that convey a sense of memory, a deeper space, like a dream just beyond remembering. They are akin to a topography of the mind, an exploration of perception. I approach the page or canvas intuitively and viscerally, which is how I want the viewer to experience my art. UPCOMING EXHIBITS and WORKSHOPS. A Collaborative Project of 6 Artists. Beacon Artist Union, in the Beacon Room. 506 Main Street, Beacon, NY 12508.
