Lori's NZ Blog: July 2007

Wednesday, July 18, 2007. First of all, yes I know I'm terrible at updating this blog. I don't think anyone reads it anyway, but just in case there is a reader or two out there, keep in mind that a couple of my friends also post to blogs and post pictures and we frequently do things as groups. For example, check out Derrick's pie day and boat dive entries in his blog. Also, check out Kevin's pictures of a cool boat dive. Wetook a while back. Where ever we go, someone always has a camera. Hey, whats this?

Saturday, May 19, 2007. It's the little things. What I did instead, after working out, was go eat at one of the few places I've found that doesn't give me Egg White 'Tude and get the "veg breakfast" with steamed spinach and tomatoes and mushrooms, and get a $3, 3-ounce espresso drink that's served in a tiny cup with a microscopic handle and is gone in three sips. My options, as I see them, are:. Move back to America. Open Wellington's first American Diner. Stop living in a fog of nostalgia.

Lori's NZ Blog: April 2007

Monday, April 09, 2007. I recently went on my very first scuba "boat dive." Boat dives are far superior to shore dives, for a variety of reasons, such as:. You don't have to pick your way over slippery rocks wearing 50 pounds of scuba gear. You don't have to try and put your fins on or take them off in the water. You don't have to wear yourself out swimming to the buoy that marks your dive spot. It's kinda hard to tell who is who with all the gear on - I'm the one with the blue-rimmed mask and black snor...

Monday, February 19, 2007. Certified to 18 meters. I've spent the last week with the nice folks at Splash Gordon. And a few mates from work getting certified to scuba dive. It's been a long week, but we made it through! We trained Monday through Thursday nights from 6 until about 10:30, with a few hours spent in classroom training and the rest of the time in a swimming pool. If you ever go through scuba training. you will NEVER swim in a swimming pool again! Posted by Lori @ 9:09 PM. The Gorman Picayune ...

Lori's NZ Blog: January 2007
http://lsmallwood.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 28, 2007. After spending Christmas in Chicago, I had another week off which I spent in the central North Island, visiting Tongariro National Park and Waitomo. Tongariro is the oldest national park in New Zealand, and is known for its three volcanos: Mount Tongariro, Mount Ruapehu, and Mount Ngauruhoe. On Jan 2, after going crazy at Kathmandu (kinda like REI) buying hiking clothes and supplies, I drove up to Tongariro ( web album. Has photos and descriptions of the hike. Mt Ruapehu is a sk...

Monday, December 18, 2006. New Zealand: Land of Incredible Sunsets. I've been seeing some amazing sunsets over my little bay lately. It seems I'm running outside every night with my camera. (The neighbors have started to laugh at me.) And during an especially amazing sunset, I'll run outside multiple times as the sky changes completely every few minutes. I've created a running album of sunsets. That I'll keep adding to over the course of the summer. Enjoy! Posted by Lori @ 10:18 PM. The only casualty was...

Monday, April 27, 2009. Hey, what's this? Winter has hit Wellington - it's dark when I get up and dark when I leave work. And here's this week's weather forecast:. At least it's not the bone-chilling cold that New Zealanders insist doesn't exist here which is why they don't insulate their houses or install any modern heating methods. After more than two years in New Zealand, maybe it's time for a bit of reflection. Here are my overriding impressions of NZ now that I've been here for a while.
