Monday, January 31, 2011. Radiation - Week 2. At the beginning of last week Chuck was in good shape but…. Friday morning I felt very guilty as I left to go to work. Two days of insomnia, nausea, throwing up, and a very itchy scalp had taken its toll and he was rather down. Saturday and Sunday he was less queasy, but fatigue hit pretty hard so we canceled plans to run errands and stayed home. He is also a bit frustrated because once again food does not taste right, and he has little/no appetite.

Saturday, June 25, 2011. To Myrtle’s Family. After yesterday’s post, Chuck and I visited Myrtle and told her what was going on. As she sobbed, she said it was the worse news she had ever heard in her entire life. We left her in the care of the owner of the facility who was there to help her process the information and keep her company after we left. Tuesday, August 23, 2011. The day after the funeral we took Chuck’s ashes to the Black Hills National Cemetery. We decided he should have one last ride in the Model A, accompanied by his BMW. It was a brief moment of joy, followed by a heartbreaking service. As you can see, we did so in a significant downpour. The Honor Guard from Ellsworth AFB did a beautiful job. Sunday, January 23, 2011. Chuck survived the first week of radiation with no ill effects. It is a surprisingly quick process. They created a mask for him which secures to the table and immobilizes his head. Two twenty second bursts, one to each side of his head, and then we are done. It is much like an X-ray. He had some nausea the first two days, but it seems to have gone away. His energy seems to be increasing and his hair is growing. Sometimes he seems like his old self. June 6, 2011. No sign of cancer.

Chuck billings home page. Back in Kansas City. Left for Wichita State after high school and never thought I’d return, but I’ve been here four years now.
