May 2015 – What a Journey! And, for now, it ends! May 3, 2015. Well….a lot has happened the last several days! The upshot is that the medical advice for me is:. 1 Don’t hike when it’s hot, and. 2 Wear loose clothing that allows sweat to evaporate and cool the body. 3 Don’t over exert yourself. 4 Keep skin clean so sweat glands don’t get covered over…. The stunning change in temperatures is also a concern and that has had me trying different locations in the Sierras to hike. Just yesterday, a hiker South ...

Having fun and enjoying life, one moment at a time. Most of our travel involves doing something on foot and/or bicycle, always followed by exploring the best of a region’s local craft beers. Living as we do at the edges of Olympic National Park, we don’t have to go far to be in a world-class travel destination! Having fun and enjoying life, one moment at a time. Tag Archives: Ride Around Washington. Back in the saddle again! June 21, 2016. Spring in the Pacific Northwest is a magical time of year. The days get longer, quite obviously, increasing by minutes from day to day. At yesterday’s solstice, we enjoyed a full 16 hours, 4 minutes of sunlight, bookended by long twilights. It’s hard to sleep much past 5:00 AM this time of year. The long days couldn’t arrive at a better time! After that, I’m flirting wi...

Having fun and enjoying life, one moment at a time. The blog that started the “slow happy” way of living is Slow Happy Runner. That blog was and is a place for LKS (that’s me) to blog about grieving, running, and going on with my life after losing my husband to cancer. I have now completed. 13 half marathons and one full marathon. I have competed in. Here are links to LKS’s prior blog posts about some of the races I have run so far:. Palm Springs half marathon. Having fun and enjoying life, one moment at a time. We’re fortunate to live in an area with world-class wilderness hiking opportunities quite close at hand. We hike pretty much year-round, trying to spend as much time as possible in the high country during the summer and staying in shape with low-country hikes during the cool rainy season. Here are some photos of nearby places we’ve hiked recently. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:.

Pie Town to Grants – the last of the big mile days | One Who Cannot
https://stevenjshattuck.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/pie-town-to-grants-the-last-of-the-big-mile-days
There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot – Aldo Leopold. Pie Town to Grants – the last of the big mile days. Asymp; 5 Comments. Day 11, May 19. Miles hiked: roughly 39. I wake up early, pack my things, and say goodbye to the other hikers who are up. Today marks another road walk day. I hike what seems like forever on a dirt road. The Miles pass slowly, as I’m in a wide open valley, and the scenery changes very little hour after hour. Day 12, May 20th. I cross the El Mapais, al...

Having fun and enjoying life, one moment at a time. We call our home brewing operation Slow Happy Brewing. Are you surprised? We started brewing in September 2012. In July 2013 we bought our mash tun and we’re now all-grain brewers. LKS creates the recipes, keeps track of our brewing schedule, and does most of the kettle-monitoring on brew day. CFL focuses on sanitation, the equipment nuts-and-bolts, and the heavy lifting on brew day. For the first taste of our brewing adventure, please see this post.

Having fun and enjoying life, one moment at a time. Tag Archives: Lake Crescent. Cycling, cycling… re-cycling! July 30, 2015. I’ve been riding my bike a lot this year. Since my last half marathon on June 7, I’ve focused almost exclusively on cycling. Well, there was a two-week beer tourism adventure in southern California, but even while there I borrowed a bike and cruised around on beachfront San Diego trails. Why the delay until mid-August? About CFL’s adventures with Ride the Hurricane. When we heard ...

Having fun and enjoying life, one moment at a time. Cycling, cycling… re-cycling! Picking up the pieces →. Ride Around Washington: We did that! August 13, 2015. A few days ago CFL and I completed a very big bike ride: we rode 400 miles from Ilwaco, up the Columbia River Gorge, to Walla Walla, Washington. That’s three-quarters of the way across Washington, from the far southwestern corner at the Pacific Coast, nearly all the way to Idaho. Piece of cake, right? The truck with the bikes was running late....

ERROWS of SPRING SERIES. Just another WordPress.com site. MERRY CHRISTMAS and a VERY HAPPY 2015. December 9, 2014. This year we are celebrating Christmas in full fashion – after 20 years of ‘thinking about it’ I have decorated two trees for my dollhouse – here’s the one in the music room. I have been enjoying the real world so much that I haven’t written any new stories. I am happily catching up on reading some fabulous books from my favorite authors and some new ones.
