00 Gauge Modern Image. The layout began over 20 years ago and was made by my father out of 3 boards that could come apart for easy transport. There were 4 or 5 engines, around 6 coaches and an assortment of freight wagons. With 2 controllers it was possible to drive trains on the main line and shunt in the yard. The DCC system used on the layout is a Hornby Elite linked into my laptop running the Railmaster Software. So far I have a dozen chipped locos and am in the process of converting the other 40 or so. The points in both fiddle yards are hooked up to the Hornby Accessory Decoders along with the Central Station. I did think of doing this on the rest of the points in the upper and lower yards but have decided to keep them manual for the time being. 00 Gauge Modern Image. Electric Points in the Station.

The newest being but a mere few weeks. The original boards are built from chipboard tops with 2x1 baton around the outside glued and screwed in place. They also have cross braces every 40cm. My Step Dad has taken this on and has come up with some excellent plans for it, including working rides and even a miniature railway! As above watch this space! Having always had G gauge (a small circle anyway! And loving operating other peoples we thought it would be nice to construct our own. Where will it be based? This is the plan for the extension. The idea being to turn the 2 lower level lines into 1 giant loop and increasing the amount of stock on the layout. The West yard upper is designed to be a shunting challenge as well due to the short head shunt. The Fiddle Yard will be able to accommodate all length of trains. It is also on this board that the heritage line links with the main line allowing an interchange or a place for the heritage trains to pause in one of the loops. 00 Gauge Modern Image.

I think the pictures paint a thousand words. However, in brief. The left hand board has received the most attention, the crane serviced and working, the lighting installed, signals, semaphore and colour light active. Still to do is to set up the fair ground and the advertising posters on the bricks.
