Large scale paper mache over chicken wire did the trick. I could put the head slightly to the side, so that I could see while skiing. Lots and lots and lots of sewing! We scrounged stretchy material from thrift stores and created a long 'tail' with slits cut every 10 feet for each skiers head. Poor Mari in the rear.whiplash-city around the hills and turns of the course! Sonya out front as our 'spark/fire'. The wave - dragon style. Aunnie, Heather K., and Mari in the rear. What a difference a year makes!

In 2006, we were the lovely 'Augustine Volcanos'. Paper-mache volcanos formed on-top of strawhats. We inserted a tin can at the head of the volcano (with the idea of putting something in there to make them smoke) and after trying dry ice and other hazardous substances, we finally went with smoking incense (which seemed to pose the least potential hazard to ourselves and others.barring something akin to the Michael-Jackson-Hair-OnFire-Incident). Ultimate Women: 2009 Sunflowers

Our 2009 Sunflowers were constructed of poster paper, cardboard, and sewer pipe (for the stem). We stapled both sides of the centers together with industrial size staples, pinching the flower to the 'stem'. Cardboard leaves were held to the stem with green duct tape. It was so cold that year ( 3 F), that we all wore puffy down under our green shirts. Later we looked at the pics and couldn't believe how fat we all looked! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The cello/symphany costumes were inspired by team-member Mari, who plays in the Anchorage Symphany. Each cello's was cut from cardboard and returned to the recycle bin after the race. A little more compressed than usual.a few days with Grandpa Roger in Cedar Rapids, a few days with uncle Jim in western Iowa, and a few days hunting the Missouri deer opener. Coal's trip was full of new discoveries, reintroductions, and new words. The place we hunt out of in Missouri). Paul, Heather, Coal, and Teal. Grandpa Roger and The New Airplane (April 2010). Slowly getting caught up with photos/posts.it's been a busy few months. In late April, Grandpa Roger drove his old (our new) Prius up to Alaska from Iowa; taking the ferry from Prince Rupert to Whittier. Roger stayed for a couple weeks, helping us with the new airplane and enjoying Coal. Great to have Rog up for a while. Followed by some library time. Everything went smoothly on her maiden voyage and the crew was happy.
