KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan: March 2009
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Johnny Hillwalker does walking tours around Kyoto three times a week. A kindly old man who is probably in his seventies. A group of twenty or so shuffled around after him for about five hours. His tour took in a load of places not normally open to the public including a number of cottage industry type businesses thriving off the concentration of temples in Kyoto. Places like ceramics, bead makers, robe makers and a fan maker:. Some cherry at last! I walked past the Budo Martial A...

KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan: Serpentine with SANAA
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009/10/serpentine-with-sanaa.html
Monday, October 12, 2009. Today I'm at the Serpentine Gallery. Their summer pavilion has been designed by Japanese architects SANAA. It looked fun when I saw it in the magazines, so I decided to come and see it in person. They're knocking it down on the 18th Oct, so I'm cutting it fine! On approach it disappears into the trees. The slender columns a forest of saplings. The underside of the slim profiled roof relects the greens of the lawn and the pinks and yellows of the designer seating.

KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan: November 2009
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 22, 2009. I've been more bold today with my Wikipedia entries - by writing about the man himself - Le Corbusier. I've edited the National Museum of Western Art page by adding the majority of the information about the building itself. Wednesday, November 11, 2009. More success. Whereas my previous wikipedia entry had been an expansion of a "stub", I have just had my first article (written from scratch) accepted as legitimate! Tuesday, November 10, 2009. I'm now drafting an article from fi...

KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan: August 2009
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 28, 2009. Day 4 on top of the world. Bagged two Munros today! Drove along the A890 to Inverness and stopped along the top end of Glen Carron to climb Moruisg (big water) and Sgurr nan Ceannaichean (peak of the merchants). We picked these for their proximity to the road. The weather again was rainy, but not in the same league as Skye. Climbing directly we ascended Moruisg first heading south east and summitted at lunchtime. And a photo of two grinning monkeys! Here's a photo of the mountain...

KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan: October 2009
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Research at the RIBA. I continued my trip to London today with a trip to the RIBA library to continue my research. I'd had particular problems finding out information about Junzo Sakakura as there is hardly any information written about him in English. But after a day trawling through back issues of the Japan Architect I've managed to pick up some new leads. Another strand may be worth pursuing at another time would be the Japanese architects who went to study at the Bauhaus.

KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan: February 2009
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 7, 2009. Snow arrives in the UK and everything grinds to a halt. I walked to work over the snow covered fields, enjoying the snowmen and igloos growing up from the ground. I was the only one to make it in and after a couple of hours I turned round and went home. Booking accommodation for my trip continues apace. I had a great response from a B&B in Kitakata. "If you're going sightseeing, you do know that it will still be cold in April. You should pack an extra layer"! Http:/ www.ri...

KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan: April 2009
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 24, 2009. I'm safely home again. Thanks to everyone for reading about my trip. The blog will continue but with more emphasis on "the architecture". I hope you'll continue reading! Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Spent the afternoon with friends and went out in Shinjuku for lunch. We ate something called "hamburg" with sauce and jacket potato. Popped into Atelier Zo to say my goodbyes. Tomorrow I'll be back in Blightey! Monday, April 20, 2009. Saturday, April 18, 2009. A brief stop near Yokohama st...

KenchikuBen - Architecture in Japan
http://kenchikuben.blogspot.com/2009/11/ive-not-been-idle-since-my-trip-to.html
Tuesday, November 10, 2009. I've not been idle since my trip to London. I've been disentangling all the photocopies of info for my research. This has finally materialised as my first forays into Wikipedia. At the weekend I expanded the "stub" for Takamasa Yoshizaka (the third of the architects I'm researching). I've submitted the article for reassessment - to hopefully get rid of the banner at the top which is a relic from when it was still a stub. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Art of Running in R25.
