Welcome! My name is Masha, I am one of the scientists in the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE) on board an icebreaker Akademik Tryoshnikov. Our science project focuses on investigating sources of the recent freshening of the Southern Ocean. As such, we study both atmosphere and ocean. I am also following in the footsteps of my grandfather, Vitaly, who was a scientist with the Fifth Soviet Antarctic Expedition (5th SAE) back in 1959-1961. I keep meaning to write up my daily schedule hour by hour, but I keep getting into too many details. So I will do a combination of the two. Midnight till 2:30 AM:. I was working at midnight. It was a really busy day for me today, we did a deep 1.5 km cast to calibrate the SOCCOM floats we launched in the afternoon. The oceanography work took old day and we all were really tired.
