Civil War Harley Tour: May 2010

http://civilwarharley.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Memorial Day Weekend Test Drive. Rather than do a drive to nowhere, we combined it with another of my hobbies - genealogy - and off we went to North Bingham, Potter County, PA. It's not actually a hot spot destination, it barely makes the map, but it's where Jason's ancestors hail. And it's not that we went to visit anyone he knows.the objective was to find a cemetery where his great-great grandparents are buried. Five days until the real vacation begins. See you on June 4! The Route is final. I think.

Civil War Harley Tour: Let the Ride Begin

http://civilwarharley.blogspot.com/2013/06/let-ride-begin.html

Thursday, June 6, 2013. Let the Ride Begin. June 5, 2013. We set out on our 4. In addition to not knowing where we’re landing each day (today we stopped in Hillsville, VA), there are two other key differences this year – the “ride” is only 5 days and other than an overnight to see Courtney, Joey and the munchkins, there are no stops. No battlefields. No museums. No riverfront bars or plantations. Not one Civil War stop on this Civil War Harley Tour. For more pictures from today's ride. Rain, Rain Go Away.

Monday, June 3, 2013. Civil War Harley - Year Four. While the “official” part of this year’s Civil War Harley ride hasn’t begun – and won’t until Wednesday morning – we are, happily, on vacation. In Merchant’s Square. It can’t be a Civil War Harley tour without at least one trip to a battlefield. Labels: Virginia; Fort Mahone. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Civil War Harley Tour: December 2011

http://civilwarharley.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Better Late than Never. I give bloggers a lot of credit. It takes work, creativity, patience and gumption to write every day. And not just write, to really have something to say. So, six months late, here goes. Or perhaps it was my Band of Angels. It really didn’t matter. We were going. After spending almost half the day in the Museum, we decided that we wanted to see some of the battlefield and monuments too, and set out on the driving tour. Regiment; Payson, only 18 years old, was with the 143. Civil W...

Civil War Harley Tour: June 2010

http://civilwarharley.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Day 13: The First and Second Battles of Manassas. Wednesday, June 13 was spent at the site of the First and Second Battles of Manassas. The batle was a Confederate victory, and the beginning of the worst conflict ever on US soil. The small town of Manassas began to rebuild, and when summer returned in 1862, so did the war and the second battle of Manassas. I Know I'm Behind. I know I'm behind. We head back to New Jersey tomorrow. through Gettysburg. and I promise I will catch up with blogs and pi...If yo...

A Civil War Haiku

A Civil War Haiku. A Civil War Haiku. Only a horse died. Before the white flag fluttered. April came in stormy then. Four-thirty, the twelfth. The uneasy peace they knew. When long darkness came. The blue and the gray. Made a hundred shades of red. The colors of war. There is no hatred. Deeper than between brothers. So close the distance. Wicked is the edge. That divides the human heart. From that which it loves. Loud days upon them. When war whispers turned to howls. And all were made deaf. Once towns i...

Civil War Harley Tour

An Unexpected Civil War Stop. Named Staunton one of the best small towns in America. There’s a lot of Civil War history in Staunton too, a perfect coincidence, considering we hadn’t made one Civil War stop on the trip to date. The. Virginia Central Railroad provided a vital link between the Shenandoah Valley and eastern Virginia, making Staunton an important Confederate supply depot. And unlike most of the surrounding areas, Staunton and its beautiful 18. Century buildings escaped the war unscathed.
