The Cornish Exile: August 2008
http://thecornishexile.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
The day the blogging died. After that though I fear that this blog will go into a deep sleep for the foreseeable future. I'm about to move up to London to start my new job, and I have to move into my new house and settle into a completely different way of life, so things will be busy for a while and I doubt I'll find the time to blog. But, as they say, never say never. So, until whenever, thanks for reading :). It would be nice to think so. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mooting all over the World. Today is...

The Cornish Exile: Living up to London
http://thecornishexile.blogspot.com/2008/12/living-up-to-london.html
Living up to London. Despite being the sort of person who loves to plan everything out, even if I'd spent a year do so, I don't think I'd have predicted even half of what these past-four months have brought. What will the New Year and beyond bring? So, what are they? In no particular order: To cycle into work and back each day; to buy a, and learn to play the ukulele; to start playing badminton again; to take up karting properly once the new season begins in March; and (can I have this one? After last we...

The Cornish Exile: Appreciating Old Town Alexandria
http://thecornishexile.blogspot.com/2008/07/appreciating-old-town-alexandria.html
Appreciating Old Town Alexandria. After last weekend's Metro troubles, my extended visit to Mount Vernon meant my plans to visit Old Town Alexandria on the way back died a death. However, yesterday they were resurrected when, despite yet more Metro holdups, I finally made it. Sour, which I suppose is necessary to contrast with the spices of the main dishes, but unfortunately not really to my taste. Dave in VA said. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Who'd have thought that a post entitled "Logistics" would bring me out of my blogging slumber? Probably anyone who knows me. How the postal system helped to shape aspects of the modern law of contract. Douglas Adams' holistic detective, Dirk Gently. Makes use of the "fundamental inconnectedness of things" to solve crime. From China to London via Koera, Kazakhstan, Poland and Germany, he'd have been impressed by UPS. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mooting all over the World. Dank u, Sinterklaasje! Today is a...

The Cornish Exile: April 2008
http://thecornishexile.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
This is not the term to be heading backwards and forwards between London and Cambridge, but nonetheless, that's what I seem to be finding myself doing and I spent the weekend just gone in our illustrious capital city. And a busy weekend it was too. Cue the chance to get all nostalgic over stroopwafeln and olliebollen, and to have a photo taken wearing 'Dutch' hats. All very good fun, and I even got to speak some Dutch, but alas, despite my supreme effort of enunciation, the addressees of my Dutch wor...

The Cornish Exile: May 2008
http://thecornishexile.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
This time in seven days I'll (presumably) be heading to bed on the night before my first-final exam. Over the following nine days I'll sit a total of six exams ranging from topics as diverse as the Historical Foundations of the British Constitution and the Conflict of Laws, to Equity and Jurisprudence. Exam term is always an odd term. The current atmosphere at University can be summed up by more apt clichés than I'd usually care for, but "the calm before the storm". We'll just have to wait and see. Some ...

The Cornish Exile: Dank u, Sinterklaasje!
http://thecornishexile.blogspot.com/2006/12/dank-u-sinterklaasje.html
Dank u, Sinterklaasje! Thankfully I have been good this year, and hence, this evening after being forced to sing traditional Dutch songs, I, along with about 30 others, was visited by Sinterklaas himself:. Un)fortunately, I, unlike Richard, did not get to sit on his knee and have my yearly exploits recounted. Although I did later learn that had I been so lucky stories of my alter ego 'Bucks', from one of my vacation schemes, would have been told. So, my thanks to Sabs for that one! I've now eaten far.

Annie and her travels: May 2012
http://theannieblog.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Annie and her travels. Thursday, May 10, 2012. J K Rowlingová, or the hilarity of Czech names. Yes, the Czechs really do call her Rowlingová (sounds like Rolling Over). Because of this, some hilarious situations have arisen, since the Czechs fully believe that if you have not got -ová on the end of your name, you must be one of two things: a man, or a business. So here are two examples of what happens when I go to collect something from the post office that is just addressed to "Barton":. Me: Ummm. w...

Annie and her travels: Other peoples' words
http://theannieblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/other-peoples-words.html
Annie and her travels. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Bring us, O Lord God, at our last awakening. Into the house and gate of heaven,. To enter into that gate and dwell in that house,. Where there shall be no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light;. No noise nor silence, but one equal music;. No fears nor hopes, but one equal possession;. No ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity;. In the habitations of thy glory and dominion,. After John Donne 1571-1631). BCP, 1549 version). Comes the hour God ...

Annie and her travels: Tipperary
http://theannieblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/tipperary.html
Annie and her travels. Friday, November 20, 2009. It's been a long time since I've been properly posting on this blog. For a variety of reasons, not because I haven't had time or anything to write about! One thing that I have, most recently, been meaning to blog about has been the new discussions between the Vatican and the Church of England/Anglican Communion. I was thinking about what to write on that topic, but then I saw Rowan's speech from this week in Rome. Have a read for yourselves!
