Art, Scribbled and Scrawled
Chromatic | carriebaker[archived]
https://cjbarchived.wordpress.com/2013/01/28/chromatic
Art, Scribbled and Scrawled. I used to be inexplicably afraid of color in art. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I finally broke the monochromatic habit. My painting professor had this shirt that said, in the center of one of those color-blind tests, “I love color.”. And that did it for me. I decided to tackle this saturated technicolored fear of mine, and have not gone back since. So here, for your colorful enjoyment, are some portraits I did in Hawaii, of my family. And I miss my sisters.

Art, Scribbled and Scrawled. Of Cabbages and Kings. I kidnapped Rose yesterday and made her wander for three hours around Waikiki with me, my camera, and my new colorful filters. This is what happened:. Let it be known that my little sister is a trooper. She posed, walked, ate, drank, and climbed trees like a boss. As far as models go, she is practically ideal. Art, Scribbled and Scrawled. I’ve been writing and doodling and photographing and painting in the hopes of stumbling upon some sort of solid foundation from which to begin, but at the end of the day, my mind still feels a bit like this:. And after awhile, I start to scribble mushrooms again, my ever-familiar go-to of late…. 8230;And after doing that awhile, my brain typically stops interpreting tangible objects and starts regressing back to my pre-collegiate standard of explosive shapes. You are commenti...
About [Archived] | carriebaker[archived]
https://cjbarchived.wordpress.com/about
Art, Scribbled and Scrawled. I am something of a nomad. A visual artist with a bachelor’s in studio art from the University of Dallas (which, incidentally, isn’t actually in Dallas, but rather in Irving, Texas). Printmaker. Photographer. Painter. Illustrator. Current MFA student at Cranbrook Academy of Art. That’s in Michigan. It’s cold here. Be something worthwhile on here. For now, feel free to fossick around the blog, and, should you feel so inclined, my website as well:. December 7, 2011 at 15:29.
Slow Gradation | carriebaker[archived]
https://cjbarchived.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/slow-gradation
Art, Scribbled and Scrawled. I am, quite possibly, having entirely too much fun with these colored filters. But, as it is Tuesday, and I promised a friend I would post something new every Tuesday, here are a few of the pictures I snagged of Honolulu earlier this afternoon. A Lookout Post for Goodness and Beauty in Art and Music. Newer posts →. Retreat North – Part I. April 19, 2012. Last night I spent about four hours by this window. I was discovering a song that’s been in my fingertips for about two months. Sometimes we’re all due for a retreat. In my case, I also need to spend some serious time with my music. So I’m in Chalfont, Pennsylvania, spending time with my aunt, uncle and cousins, specifically to record an EP with my cousin, Sam. 1 Holocene – Bon Iver. 8220;Blood...

A Lookout Post for Goodness and Beauty in Art and Music. Retreat North – Part I. Couch Art →. Samuel Haines – Artist Extraodinaire. April 23, 2012. As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m recording an EP with my cousin, Sam, an artist who approaches everything he does through a contemplative lens. Even recording is an art for him: he toys with microphone placement, generally recording a single instrument through three mics at a time to achieve nuance and color. When did you first start recording? Address...

A Lookout Post for Goodness and Beauty in Art and Music. Kishi Bashi →. Here’s to Live. June 22, 2012. Just a quick plaster of live music. It’s always cool to hear the stripped versions of artists’ songs – there’s something completely organic and natural about the results. I ran across these videos and had to share them. Check ’em out. 1 Grizzly Bear – “While You Wait for the Others”. 2 Vampire Weekend – “Walcott”/”One (Blake’s Got a New Face)”. 3 We Are Trees – “Sunrise Sunset”. Kishi Bashi →.

Life in the Gap. Newer posts →. I’m in training. March 13, 2014. Is it just DC where every activity has to be carried to an absurd level of competition? I had to use this meme. But it gets worse. I don’t even know how to. Is there nowhere in life that “poorly dressed” is an acceptable standard? So…I’m calling this a win. And if you’re working towards a 40-minute 10k anytime between now and June, know that I hate you and I don’t want to talk about it. Profile in the Gap: Blanca Therese Morales. I had alwa...

A Lookout Post for Goodness and Beauty in Art and Music. Here’s to Live. Track Notes →. July 4, 2012. If Jonsi Birgisson from Sigur Ros met and married a geisha, Kishi Bashi would have been their child. After touring with Of Montreal and Regina Spektor, this singer/songwriter/violinist virtuoso from Seattle, WA, released his beautiful album. First, I want to thank all my readers for reading this blog, when they had a myriad of choices of other blogs to read from. Even if there are only ten of you, I’m stoked. It means a lot to me to have a small, genuine readership. I’ll take that over 20,000 Twitter followers.
