Asian Adventures

Japan is a weird and wonderful place - now you can all see it through my eyes! Tuesday, May 09, 2006. I've been putting off updating this blog since I am now back to my 'normal' life and it means that my days of traveling have come to an end. Somehow daily or even weekly updates about the goings-on in my life seem rather mundane. However, one adventure only leads to another - so perhaps it is not the 'end' but only a new beginning. To follow updates on the trip check out:. But now with just over a month ...

Asian Adventures: My first 'Malaria Zone' - only there weren't any mosquitoes!

http://cjcunnin.blogspot.com/2006/02/my-first-malaria-zone-only-there.html

Japan is a weird and wonderful place - now you can all see it through my eyes! Thursday, February 09, 2006. My first 'Malaria Zone' - only there weren't any mosquitoes! After Bangkok I made my way to Northern Thailand to do some trekking. I had made sure to find some anti-malaria pills as soon as I could to get ready for the N.Thailand/Cambodia danger zones. But I really don't think I needed them! I did have one bite. And I heard at least one other mosquito buzzing around, but that was pretty much it.

Asian Adventures: October 2005

http://cjcunnin.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html

Japan is a weird and wonderful place - now you can all see it through my eyes! Friday, October 28, 2005. Just when I didn't think it could happen, it did. Yup, I know it's hard to believe but it's true. I had thought maybe it was happening. my clothes felt a little looser, I had to buckle my belt another notch tighter and then this 90lb. Japanese woman told me I was thin. But I still was skeptical. I thought maybe it's just in my head. I mean how accurate is our perception of ourselves? I find I pause ri...

Asian Adventures: February 2006

http://cjcunnin.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html

Japan is a weird and wonderful place - now you can all see it through my eyes! Friday, February 17, 2006. My trip to Cambodia was pretty interesting. The road from Thailand, though significantly improved in the past couple years - is still an adventure in and of itself. It's only a flat, 150 kilometers but it takes over 4 hours. In the past it could take up to 8-10 hours so I guess I should have been happy. But the ride was bumpy, dusty and ridiculously cramped. And a parting sunset shot from the top of ...

Asian Adventures: Brooke's stay in Japan

http://cjcunnin.blogspot.com/2006/01/brookes-stay-in-japan.html

Japan is a weird and wonderful place - now you can all see it through my eyes! Saturday, January 07, 2006. Brooke's stay in Japan. So I haven't updated at all about Brooke's visit in Japan. And I probably won't since she summed it up so well on her blog (click the link on the side panel to check it out). I will however post a picture of the two of us just to prove that she really was here! Ohh that seems like so long ago now! I also managed to fit in some sightseeing around all my thesis work. So tomorro...

Asian Adventures: Bangkok - the best and worst city

http://cjcunnin.blogspot.com/2006/02/bangkok-best-and-worst-city.html

Japan is a weird and wonderful place - now you can all see it through my eyes! Wednesday, February 08, 2006. Bangkok - the best and worst city. Visiting Kuala Lumpur was a good warm up for Bangkok. Both are hot, sweaty, bustling Asian cities where competition for business of any kind is extremely fierce. Sales people in the markets and even the shops are pushy beyond belief. I adjusted, slowly. But I have a hard time being as blunt and rude as is necessary to have people leave you alone. This reclining b...

Brooke in NYC: December 2005

http://brookeinnyc.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

The many adventures of brooke.Rated PG. Sunday, December 11, 2005. I thought I'd share some recent shots of winter in the city. The first pic is the Empire State Building taken from Union Square. The next photo is the first snow, taken from my doorstep. Our first snow day was last Sunday (surprisingly we are well behind Vancouver where there has apparently been a number of snow days already! The many adventures of brooke.Rated PG. Saturday, November 26, 2005. My First American Thanksgiving. I was pretty excited about my first Thanksiving here mostly because I get a 4-day weekend - and a REAL long weekend in that everyone is off work in the US and I can come to work on Monday without a zillion emails in my inbox. Also considering my recent hectic travel schedule, the extent of my plans for the weekend involved a lot of sleeping in, some turkey and Netflix! Posted by Brooker @ 12:47 PM. Stuck ...

Although I haven't been doing much traveling lately, every day is still an adventure! I created this blog to help me with the overwhelming task of staying in touch with all the amazing friends I've made around the world. She was quite shocked at my statements about the situation in Gaza, and as an Israeli soldier who spent the war in bomb shelters 3 miles from Gaza, she offered her perspective on the situation. Here is what she said. If the army made a point of announcing its intention of bombing buildin...

The many adventures of brooke.Rated PG. Monday, January 30, 2006. Weekend in the City - Finally! After all my travels, I was happy to spend a weekend in the city and actually see my friends. This picture is a bunch of my good friends here in NYC. From left Daryl, Andrei, Alia and Drew. We were at a black and white themed 30th birthday party for our friend Corey, which of course merited a feather boa and also involved a lot of champagne. Posted by Brooker @ 12:49 PM. The many adventures of brooke.Rated PG. Sunday, February 12, 2006. As you probably have all seen on the news by now, we are buried under a record breaking 26.9 inches of snow here in NYC. It's the biggest snow storm in the city's history, the last closest being the blizzard of 1947 when 26.4 inches fell. Snow was falling at 3-4 inches an hour. Amazing! Here's the view from my window today and some shots of the neighbourhood. Posted by Brooker @ 5:33 PM. Tuesday, February 07, 2006. View my complete profile.

Friday, January 2, 2015. These are probably very ambitious goals knowing all that I'll have going on in 2015, but never the less here they are! Finish the swoon quilt. I finished the top late in 2014, so now it needs to be basted and quilted! Finish the scrappy zig-zag quilt. Another late 2014 finish, but it still needs to be basted and quilted! Make a bag, or maybe just make something with a zipper. We are overcoming our fear of zippers this year. Thursday, January 1, 2015. It should be the best year yet.

Charles River, Boston.
