Indonesia: Life In The Islands: September 2006

Indonesia: Life In The Islands. Wednesday, September 27, 2006. Will Wonders Never Cease? I'm going to try to get to Ubud while I'm there to attend some sessions of the Ubus Writer's Festival. Hotels should be about $4/night. Unplanned vacations and amazingly low prices- who wouldn't love Indonesia? Posted by Caitlin @ 4:41 PM. Retreat From Sanity, Part Deux. Laughing at schoolbuses, SMA 3 transported 900 kids 2 hours up a mountain in 22 military convoy trucks. That was allowed and even preferable. Wardro...

Destination Indo: Life From Inside the Depokosphere: Reflections on Fulbright

Destination Indo: Life From Inside the Depokosphere. Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Fulbright requires that all grantees complete an end-of-term report during the last month of the grant period. Although accurately capturing my year in Indonesia in writing is far from possible, my response to the following question sums up a few of my thoughts during my last week in Depok:. Thank you for your reminder of how much privilege I actually live with. May 24, 2007 at 1:27 AM. May 31, 2007 at 1:46 AM.

Indonesia: Life In The Islands: March 2007

Indonesia: Life In The Islands. Sunday, March 18, 2007. Times are kind of low here right now.so I'm going to post some pictures of a few of my favorite memories of Indonesia so far. This little girl lived at a halfway house for abandoned children in Surabaya that I visited on Thanksgiving. The kids were adorable. For some reason they loved to throw these up. Who knows where they learned it. Riding ponies had always been a passion of mine.outside a temple at Gunung Bromo. Posted by Caitlin @ 3:27 PM.

Indonesia: Life In The Islands: November 2006
http://caitlin-indonesia.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
Indonesia: Life In The Islands. Thursday, November 30, 2006. Yes, I'm Available for Hire. I’ve been trying to complete my grad school applications for a few days now and the final push has been the most difficult. Knowing myself, I read all the magazines in my house and hid my DVDs so I wouldn’t be tempted. I eliminated all food so there would be no snack breaks. In theory, I should be forced to complete my essays just from a sheer lack of anything better to do. Very quickly, I realized I’d used too much...

Indonesia: Life In The Islands: February 2007
http://caitlin-indonesia.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Indonesia: Life In The Islands. Sunday, February 25, 2007. These Are A Few Of My Most Hated Things. Two, to be exact. Daily life as a bulé in Indonesia has its annoyances (see, An Indonesian Day, below), but I’ve been able to get used to/basically ignore a lot of them like the tendency for people to be an hour late for meetings, the staring, the comments about my weight, skin tone, and outfits but these two are quickly growing to be unbearable. Ant stompin’ is a fun little game I’ve created where I put o...

Indonesia: Life In The Islands: May 2007
http://caitlin-indonesia.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
Indonesia: Life In The Islands. Tuesday, May 29, 2007. I've written about this before, but for the last year there has been hot mud flowing from the ground in Sidoarjo, East Java. Both the government and Lapindo, the company that was drilling at the mud site, refuse to take responsibility for the victims or the material damage they've suffered. Thousands of refugees have lost everything they own and nothing is being done to aid them. Here. Is an article from today's Jakarta Post about the refugees.
