여름에 책 읽는 이야기. 드라마도 봤지만 틈틈이 책도 계속 읽었다. 이번 여름에 읽은 책들 정리 (순서는 뒤죽박죽, 빼먹은게 있을지도). 갑자기 무엇인가에 홀린 듯, 오래전에 읽고 소장하고 있었던 이 책을 다시 꺼내들었다. 그 중 내 마음에 콕 박히는 부분은 “본질”에 관한 것. 아리스토텔레스는 “현상은 복잡하지만 본질은 단순하다”라고 했다. 나에게 필요한 것과 불필요한 것을 구분할 수 없다는 것은 무차별적으로 쏟아지는 화살 앞에 맨몸으로 서있는 것과 같다. 그럼에도 우리가 현상의 포로가 되는 이유는 내가 아는 지식과 정보들이 아까워서 산만하게 흩어진 미약한 정보들을 모두 붙들고 있기 때문이다. 그러다보니 자기가 아는 것을 기준으로 현상을 보고, 그것을 뿌리내려 본질을 이해하는데 쓰기보다는 그저 정보의 양을 늘리는 데만 집착하는 것. 단: 버리고 세우고 지키기 이지훈. 메모를 많이 하면서 읽었는데, 그중에 “본질” 찾기에 관련한 부분을 뽑아서 데려온다. 왜’에 집중한다는 것은 ‘나’를 찾는 일이기도...

Monthly Archives: April 2016. 학기가 끝나가는 시점에서 돌아보기. 어제로 마지막 수업까지 다 끝났다. 물론 파이널 페이퍼와 마지막 숙제 (a.k.a. 테잌홈 파이널)가 남았지만. 이번주에 일년차 학과발표도 끝내고, 며칠 고민해서 푼 숙제도 제출하고 나니까 어제오늘은 책상 앞에 앉아있는게 힘들다… 으허허. 연습하면 언젠가 나도 더 강해질까? 8217; 라는 생각이 너무 가득해서 그런 코멘트에 대해서 적절한 excitement를 보여주지 못한 것 같기도 하다. 왜냐면 그게 사실이었기 때문이다. 우리 교수님도 이 쪽 실험에서 마음이 좀 떠난 것 같고. 솔직히 이 실험을 발전시켜서 follow-up을 계속 할지 나도 자신이 없는데, “그렇게 해볼 수 있겠다”고 말하면서도 정말 할 것같은 의욕까지 표현하는건 아무래도 힘들었다. 그게 다 티가 났을 것 같아서 또 아쉬웠다. 얼른 학기말 마무리짓고 연구에 집중하고 싶다! 그래서 더더욱 여름방학이 기대된다. Monthly Archives: March 2016. 글쓰는 (빈둥대는) 수요일 아침. 이번학기는 화요일이 죽음이다. 논스톱으로 미팅과 수업들을 쫙- 덕분에 월요일도 허덕이고 월요일 밤이면 ‘난 도대체 뭘한거지’ 우울해진다. 월요일에 조금이라도 마음이 편하려면, 일요일에 근질거리는 몸을 자리에 앉혀두고 효율이 어찌되었든 월요병을 앞당겨 겪는 수 밖에 없다. 출퇴근이 없는 대학원생에게 “월요병”이란 말을 쓰는 건 이상한건가? 그래서 화요일이 지나고 수요일 아침이 되면 마치 토요일 오전인 듯 평화롭고 여유롭다. 수요일 아침마다 대학원생을 위한 Coffee and Connect 이벤트가 있는데 몇 주 째 꾸준히 다닌다. (요즘은 내가 직접 빵을 사먹지 않으려고 하고있는데, 이건 일주일에 한 번 베이글을 먹을 수 있는 좋은 핑계다) 어떨 땐 커피와 빵만 집어들고 빠져나오기도 하는데, 종종 다른 학과 학생들과 짧게 이야기를 한다. 오늘도 그런 날이었다. 이게 아마도 내가 직접 본 세번째 디펜스였던 것 같다&...
