The Mill and its History. Clapton Mill and its History. Set in picturesque South Somerset, Clapton Mill is a unique piece of our industrial heritage. Corn milling has taken place on this site since at least 1257 and probably even earlier. The current building, which is Grade 2* listed, dates from the 18th Century although the interior was extensively remodelled in the 1850s. Since then it has remained virtually unchanged throughout its 150 year history. Tours are by appointment only.
