Classics and Beyond: The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner
http://www.classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-sound-and-fury-by-william-faulkner.html
Thursday, April 11, 2013. The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner. I am very proud to say that I finished this book. Now that that's out of the way, I should tell you that this post will not at all resemble a review, because I feel completely underqualified to pass any kind of judgment on this book. I know there are a lot. The truth is, I'm not sure Faulkner even really intended this book to be understood. (But like I said, I can't make any real. That's exactly how I felt about The Sound and the Fury.

Friday, August 29, 2014. Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place by Terry Tempest Williams. But to like it. Except that I didnt. I hate to say that. I really do. This is possibly the biggest reading disappointment Ive ever had because I just really wanted to like it. . Cared about the birds, but she didnt express this in a way I could understand. The birds were her job, and she left out no solitary technical detail. It was hard to keep my eyes from glazing over. . Like to read. Williams, ins...

Friday, October 31, 2014. Giant by Edna Ferber. After reading the first chapter or two of Giant. I was sure I wouldnt like the rest of it. I couldnt tell exactly what was going on, there were too many characters and I didnt know which ones were important, and I was bored. I didnt think it would, or could, get any better. But then- miracle of miracles- it did. As a basic synopsis, Giant. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. This Boy's Life by Tobias Wolff. Why did you do it? And why does it matter? They'll say...
Classics and Beyond: Counting books.
http://www.classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014/10/counting-books.html
Saturday, October 18, 2014. I started counting my books even before I started blogging. I counted them in my journal- I'd make a list in the back of all the books I'd read that year. After I created Classics and Beyond, I started using Goodreads. To track the books I read. (I had a Goodreads account before, but I didn't use it regularly.) I loved this easy way to see what I'd read, and just as importantly, how many books I'd read in a year. Even though I only have about 100 pages to go. I'm sure some of ...

Pass the Chocolate: November 2012
http://emily-passthechocolate.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
When life gives you lemons.throw them back and ask for chocolate. Sunday, November 4, 2012. Recently Ive been sort of into writing sonnets. Im not a particularly poetic person, but in the past few months Ive been reading more poetry than I ever have before and Ive been learning a lot about it. So here are my amateur sonnets. You will probably see more of these as time goes on and I try to really learn the art of the sonneteer. This was a sonnet I wrote in the Petrarchan form, about the Petrarchan form.

Pass the Chocolate: Writing, and insanity.
http://emily-passthechocolate.blogspot.com/2013/02/writing-and-insanity.html
When life gives you lemons.throw them back and ask for chocolate. Saturday, February 2, 2013. Writing, and insanity. For some of the great writers, it seems that writing was in their soul. Keats, for example. He died very young, but had produced more poetry than most famous writers who lived much longer. Keats had it in his soul. Man It's like his beautiful lines just poured out of him, like water out of a grecian urn. But you get what I'm saying. For some of them, they just let it flow out. I am insane ...

When life gives you lemons.throw them back and ask for chocolate. Wednesday, September 26, 2012. So, for once in my life I am actually going to write a post that I told you I was going to write. Like I wrote in my last post, I am thinking of going a different way with my writing. Disclaimer: I havent actually decided. 160;by hashmil on Flickr. Pass the Chocolate: A Literary Halloween
http://emily-passthechocolate.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-literary-halloween.html
When life gives you lemons.throw them back and ask for chocolate. Thursday, October 25, 2012. Okay, I'm going to be honest. Normally, Halloween isn't my favorite holiday. But this Halloween is different! As any writer, reader, or English major knows, the best way to improve a holiday is to literar-ize it. I mean, look at Christmas. You have Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. And out of all these wonderfully literarized holidays, you get Halloween, which, if you can believe it, is exponentially more.

When life gives you lemons.throw them back and ask for chocolate. Monday, February 11, 2013. There are two guys outside my window.barbecuing. And no, in case you were wondering, I do not live in California anymore. I live in Utah, and currently it is the dead of winter. Not just the dead of winter, but it has been snowing almost all day with no sign of letting up. But there they are, under a rather sparse tree, bundled up in their jackets and boots, flipping burgers on a grill. They lamented. Then. For s...

Pass the Chocolate: Goodbye
http://emily-passthechocolate.blogspot.com/2013/03/goodbye.html
When life gives you lemons.throw them back and ask for chocolate. Monday, March 18, 2013. You might have noticed that I've been a little MIA here on the blog as of late. I've been struggling to write on it. For one reason or another, even though I've been writing a lot, I've had very little desire to publish anything here. So that's why I'm leaving. I've created a new blog for my writing, to replace this one. I just need a place where I can be free again. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Classics and Beyond
Wednesday, March 25, 2015. So I haven't posted here in nearly four months, as you may have noticed. Part of the reason for that, of course, is that I had a baby. She's completely darling and perfect and wonderful. But if I'm being honest, she's a very easy baby, so I've actually had more time than I bargained for to read and write. I've been doing quite a bit of reading for fun- a lot more than I did when I was in school. I still care about books and literature, but it's not much of a focus in my life ri...

Classics and Cheese
The blog of reader, writer, and food-lover Michael Peeples. Monday, October 23, 2017. So I mentioned in a previous post or two that due to a class I'm currently taking, my reading time would be reduced, but at the same time, that I would be looking for ways to apply what I learn to the world of books and/or publishing. Obviously, it's no surprise that I love words and reading, etc. Labels: Arthur C. Clarke. Sunday, October 8, 2017. The Ox Bow Incident quotes. I recently finished "The Ox Bow Incident" by ...
