Sunday, January 24, 2016. 109West 2015 - a Colorado tour. This was my 14th week long bicycle tour in Colorado and my third with 109West. As it turns out, the tour had not grown and, in fact, the number of riders was less than the prior two years. I ended up riding much of it alone. This was a problem in that there seemed to be a lot of wind this year and certainly as much traffic as ever. Oh well, it was good to see friends from prior years and I enjoyed much of the week. 65279;. My buddy Gary joined m...

Clay's Cycling Blog: August 2011

http://clayscyclingblog.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 18, 2011. Our week long trip to Portland in August was a shock. How to you go from 100 degree weather to 60 and 70 degree weather! I seemed to feel cold more often than not. We took a weekend trip to Seattle, so I ended up getting only one ride in on Sunday afternoon. The good news is the ride was epic Portlandia. Single speed bike (no - not fixed gear for me), no lycra, no gloves, and ordinary shoes. Going to downtown Portland over the Broadway Bridge. A lot of time was spent on the "Dr...

Clay's Cycling Blog: End of an era - leaving Texas!

http://clayscyclingblog.blogspot.com/2015/10/end-of-era-leaving-texas.html

Friday, October 30, 2015. End of an era - leaving Texas! Wow - after 67 years of living in the Lone Star State, most of them in Amarillo, my wife Linda and I moved to Oregon. That's an entire story itself so I'll just go straight to the cycling related content. Almost every ride in December of 2014, our last month in Amarillo, was somewhat nostalgic. Fortunately there were some really good weather days and lots of friends were on these rides. There was a cake, yellow of course, and it was delicious.

Clay's Cycling Blog: 109West 2014 Announcement

http://clayscyclingblog.blogspot.com/2013/11/109west-2014-announcement.html

Wednesday, November 27, 2013. The 109West.com page has been updated for the 2014 event. My buddy Andy and I worked with them (consulted, discussed, etc) on the route and eventually came up with an excellent ride. It'll cover some new roads for me and I'm excited about that. It'll be my first ride over Hoosier Pass, and that will mean that I've ridden over every paved road/pass in Colorado over 11,000 feet. That includes up and back roads to Pikes Peak and Mt. Evans. Clay's Cycling Blog: 109West 2014 - a week long loop through Colorado

http://clayscyclingblog.blogspot.com/2014/07/109west-2014-week-long-loop-through.html

Thursday, July 31, 2014. 109West 2014 - a week long loop through Colorado. I really looked forward to this tour for several reasons. Three of my cycling buddies were joining me along with my annual roommate from Wisconsin. That would bring our posse to 5 for the week. In addition the route would take us over at least one pass I'd never ridden before (Hoosier Pass) and over some others (McClure Pass and Monarch Pass) in a direction I'd never ridden before. From right: Sam, Perry, Dave, Clay and Chris.
