Daring Hope: September 2008
http://daringhope.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 9, 2008. Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Parish Letter 24th Week A 2008. The Exaltation of the Holy Cross. St Paul, whose year we are celebrating, admits, at the beginning of his letter to the Corinthians, that the content of his gospel message – Christ crucified – did not fit into the either the Jewish or the Greek cultures of his day:. Some suffering is actually caused by the terrible acts of violent individuals bent on reaping destruction in the name of whatever cause. We have see...

Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Parish Letter 20th Sunday A 2008. Woman, you have great faith. As I was walking out of the ward, a man lying in the far corner said to me: “What about me? Do you not pray for me too? In today’s gospel, the Canaanite woman makes herself dangerously vulnerable. Her position was diametrically opposed to that of Jesus on many levels; she was Canaanite – he was Jewish, she was a woman – he was a man. This position had serious social, political, racial, sex...Jesus had ventured into...

Daring Hope: The Passion of the Christ
http://daringhope.blogspot.com/2014/04/the-passion-of-christ.html
Saturday, April 19, 2014. The Passion of the Christ. I like the depiction in The Passion of the Christ, of the impression that the passion of Jesus had on the woman caught in adultery. She watches him go through, what she almost certainly went through, at the hands of her accusers. She was spared this ordeal by him. She now watches, helplessly, unable to save the one who saved her. How she must have wanted to do for him what he did for her, but she could not. How that must have torn her deep inside.

Friday, July 30, 2010. A prophet is only despised in his own country and in his own house. Reflection at Morning Mass: Nazareth House. Today’s Gospel has a special message for parents, children and families. It will help all of us to reflect and meditate often on this reading. 8221; they all wonder. 8230;…… So where did the man get it all? The people of his village failed to handle this confusion. Their wonderment leads them, unfortunately, to rejecting Jesus. They expected him to come back home ...But h...

Thursday, April 10, 2008. Parish Letter Fourth Sunday Easter A 2008. The Gate of the Sheepfold. Let us pray for authority in our country, as we live through a rough patch of national history, replete with abandonment. Let us pray that God, the Author and Creator may give us leaders who participate in his creative authority. Let us pray that Our Lord Jesus, the Gate of the Sheepfold, may give us shepherds, in the church and in the country, who enter through the gate. Amen. Tuesday, April 8, 2008. 8217; In...

Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Parish Letter Lent 3 B 2009. Anger: The Powerful Emotion. Jesus’ public display of anger (John 2:13-15) gives us an opportunity to look at that powerful emotion, anger, which we all experience throughout our lives. We all feel angry at one time or another, yet we may not be aware of the anger. As a result, we may not think of ourselves as angry people, or even as capable of anger. We do not choose to be angry - we get angry as a matter of course. What we can choose is what to...

http://daringhope.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 19, 2014. FOR THE SAKE OF THE JOY WHICH LAY AHEAD OF HIM. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who leads us in our faith and brings it to perfection: for the sake of the joy which lay ahead of him, he endured the cross, disregarding the shame of it, and has taken his seat at the right of God's throne" (Hebrews 12:2). What is the joy that lay ahead of Jesus? And bowed his head and surrendered his spirit in death (John 19:30). That joy was inside him all the time, even when he appeared defe...
