CLIFTON HOUSE, KING’S LYNN: GUIDE. Clifton House is an extraordinary survial: the most complete medieval merchant’s house in England. Behind its apparently Georgian exterior, Clifton House is, in fact, a medieval building, with features dating back to the 12th century. The spectacular vaulted brick cellar or undercroft and the two complete original medieval tiled floors are substantial survivors from the building’s early phases, and testify to the wealth of the owners of Clifton House.
