Kirstyn in Kriti: January 2010
http://kyrstyninkreta.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Friday, January 29, 2010. What is it about this place? I had dinner with a new friend at a taverna in the hills near Chania the other night, and one of the topics of discussion was the allure that Crete holds for each of us. Crete has many well-known virtues:. The hospitality of the Cretan people is legendary, and I have found them to be honest, open, curious and unassuming. They s...

This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Sunday, May 30, 2010. I wish I had time to post some pictures from the last few weeks, to catch up with what's been happening during my sister's visit, but unfortunately today will have to be dedicated to packing up, cleaning house and all the little details involved in preparing to return to the US tomorrow morning on the 7am flight from Chania. Lots to do. Saturday, May 15, 2010.

Kirstyn in Kriti: February 2010
http://kyrstyninkreta.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Thursday, February 25, 2010. I don't usually get excited about soup, but I must admit that the batch I cooked up last night was pretty damn tasty. I boiled 1/2 kilo of lentils for about 10 minutes, then rinsed and drained them. I don't know if this is normal, I have very little experience with lentils. Labels: Food and Wine. Saturday, February 20, 2010. On the return trip, I ran into N...

This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Wednesday, December 30, 2009. A Brit, a Belgian and an American walk into a bar. Sorrythere's no joke to follow (couldn't find one online) but I thought it would make a good blog title. They are two of the most gracious, interesting and fun people I'm privileged to know! Below are some pictures from their visit. And stopped into a building with a Christmas exhibit so that Chantal and I...

Kirstyn in Kriti: April 2010
http://kyrstyninkreta.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Thursday, April 15, 2010. Just some photos from a hike I took a couple of weeks ago into the hills to the west of Kastelli. I haven't viewed the town and the gulf from this vantage point yet, so it was a nice, new perspective. Alas, I escaped unharmed and have decided that I will no longer hike into the hills at mid-day, since that seems to be when the bees are most active. The mixture...

Kirstyn in Kriti: October 2009
http://kyrstyninkreta.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Thursday, October 29, 2009. The Gorge of Deliana.Almost. Each time I drive east on the National Road, I see a sign for the Gorge of Deliana, and have been meaning to check it out for some time now. Today provided a good opportunity, as there was no rain in the forecast and it was a generally pleasant, partly-sunny, breezy autumn day. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Local red wine, or what I...

Kirstyn in Kriti: September 2009
http://kyrstyninkreta.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Another Trip to the Vet. Anyway, Cleo has an ulcer on the back of her neck, probably a reaction to the Frontline treatment I gave to both her and Rikki back in July. So the doctor sent me home with some anti-biotic drops that also contain steroids, and gave me a steeper than usual discount for kitty #3. Joke of the Day. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. 2) Bef...

Kirstyn in Kriti: July 2009
http://kyrstyninkreta.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
This, that and whatever but primarily intended to keep friends and family up to date on my year-long adventure in Crete. Friday, July 31, 2009. I was supposed to take Yannis to dinner tonight for his birthday, but he just stopped by to tell me he's leaving for Albania tonight because a 13 year old cousin was killed in a car accident. He thinks he'll be back in a week. I responded that I thought it was important for the public to be aware of counter-views, especially whenever the "majority" decides to tak...
