The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh): Starting your own backyard flock

http://clucknneigh.blogspot.com/p/starting-your-own-backyard-flock.html

The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh). Join us in our adventures (and misadventures) in compassionate eating, homesteading and (more) sustainable living. Starting your own backyard flock. In the spirit of Johnny Appleseed. Seriously, write down your answers to these questions. Determine what you need/want in your chickens. Are you having financial difficulty and looking for a way to spend less at the grocery store? Do you want your birds to be on the cover of Bird Fancy and winner of best in show?

The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh): The Op/Ed section

http://clucknneigh.blogspot.com/p/oped-section.html

The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh). Join us in our adventures (and misadventures) in compassionate eating, homesteading and (more) sustainable living. Vilifying Farmers for Shooting Dogs and Cats Misguided, Ignorant. A dog that looks just like the dog asleep on my couch could never be a threat to my child, could it? Let me be clear. A pack of dogs, however cute, is dangerous. Sorry, but if we see Fluffy around our chickens, she won't be coming home tonight. It is not our responsibility to keep your ...

The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh): How cruelty free can you be?

http://clucknneigh.blogspot.com/p/how-cruelty-free-can-you-be.html

The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh). Join us in our adventures (and misadventures) in compassionate eating, homesteading and (more) sustainable living. How cruelty free can you be? Ok, so you've decided to be more aware of the way your food is produced. Now comes the complicated part. The dreaded shopping list. Just how far do you want to take compassionate eating? What best fits your lifestyle and budget? Since I only know egg farming first hand, I'll use it as my example case. Let's say you're ...

The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh). Join us in our adventures (and misadventures) in compassionate eating, homesteading and (more) sustainable living. If you'd like to help support us and our flock in a more tangible way, here are some of the projects we're working on and what we need to finish them. Security: Due to the recent theft and slaughter of over half of our flock, we are forced to install security features to the coop, yards, greenhouse and farm perimeter. Large metal barrels (4). The Karma Farm (formerly Cluck-n-Neigh). Join us in our adventures (and misadventures) in compassionate eating, homesteading and (more) sustainable living. Tuesday, May 10, 2011. The Best Laid Plans. But fair warning on how horrific it is. I almost deleted it, but came to the decision that she deserves to be seen and cried for. As for you, sweet innocent little dog who only wanted a lap to sit in, I pray for your swift and higher rebirth. I can't think of any creature who deserves it more. So for the tim...

Oak Hill Farm: June 2012

http://oakhillfarms.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Family Owned and Operated Since 1832. Saturday, June 16, 2012. Box 6: Last of the spring! What a great spring! We have loved filling up the boxes every week; there is something very satisfying about planting seeds, seeing plants grow to maturity, and then assembling everything into boxes. Not quite as satisfying as cooking the veggies, but still. We have learned a lot in the process, and our first-season CSAers were wonderful to help us in the process. Thanks! Basil, cucumbers, green onions, cabbage.

Oak Hill Farm: August 2011

http://oakhillfarms.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Family Owned and Operated Since 1832. Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Weeding the New Herb Bed. Last week, we had our first experience with WWOOF and WWOOFers. We were pleasantly surprised. Actually, that's a monumental understatement. We were ecstatic! WWOOF, or World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. We signed up last winter as a WWOOF-friendly farm through WWOOF USA. The US arm of WWOOF International. You can see part of our profile here. Though you'll have to sign up or sign on to see the whole thing.

On Cable, Dawkins and the Papal Visit | Girl, Interrupting

https://sylviamclain.wordpress.com/2010/09/09/cable-dawkins-and-the-papal-visit

September 9, 2010. On Cable, Dawkins and the Papal Visit. Filed under: papal visit. 8212; sylviamclain @ 5:36 pm. The uproar(s) seems to be largely a matter of tone…. William CullerneBown has written a nice post on Exquisite Life about Cable and science reaction here. And the arguments against Cable are largely a matter of TONE. His tone, and his attitude towards academic scientists. Followed by a post today Alom Shaha. But there a couple of things about this protest that are just weird. 1 – Runnin...

On becoming (naturalised, half) British | Girl, Interrupting

https://sylviamclain.wordpress.com/2011/02/13/on-becoming-naturalised-half-british

February 13, 2011. On becoming (naturalised, half) British. 8212; sylviamclain @ 8:21 pm. I am undertaking ‘a journey to citizenship’. And happily (thankfully) I just passed the test and can apply for citizenship soon. Fortunately I can be a US/UK citizen; the UK isn’t particularly concerned with dual citizenships and the US wants to keep us:. My mother, like I assume many Americans, didn’t know this- she sent me an email:. Are you applying for British Citizenship? 2 – Gentleness – the Police...6 –...

Oak Hill Farm: April 2011

http://oakhillfarms.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Family Owned and Operated Since 1832. Wednesday, April 6, 2011. A fresh coat of paint. From Oak Hill Farms. Last fall, Tim Ammons of Oleo Acres brought out his ladders, scrapers, and paint gear to give Oak Hill a fresh coat of paint. Then, winter came- and with things looking grey and brown, we've waited until now to share the first pictures. The house looks really awake with the shutters still off (Tim is reworking them this spring)- and it just glows in the late afternoon light. Posted by Ted M.

Oak Hill Farm: CSA Week 4! With special guest veggies!

http://oakhillfarms.blogspot.com/2012/06/csa-week-4-with-special-guest-veggies.html

Family Owned and Operated Since 1832. Friday, June 1, 2012. With special guest veggies! The whole idea of a totally self-sufficient farmstead with all of its own produce, animals, etc. is something of a myth. Here, I mean "myth" in both senses: in that it probably never existed as such and that the idea. Our farm has been in operation since before the civil war. Back in the day, the spread was much larger and the north edge of the property included what is now Oleo Acres Farm. We had kale in the box last...

Oak Hill Farm: CSA Week 5: The Boxes are In!

http://oakhillfarms.blogspot.com/2012/06/csa-week-5-boxes-are-in.html

Family Owned and Operated Since 1832. Saturday, June 9, 2012. CSA Week 5: The Boxes are In! Can you believe we are in week 5 of the CSA already? We will be sending out a survey to members in the next week or so asking you how we did, what you liked best, and what you would change for next Spring. We are also planning our Summer CSA! The summer session will start after a break, and will include things like beans, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, and assorted squash. Look for signup information soon! Ok, these...

Home - Cluck n Waddle

Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Peafowl and Guinea Fowl. Breeding poultry is one of my main hobbies, and I like to keep mostly rare and hard to find breeds. I'm lucky enough to live in the Avon Valley of Western Australia on 7 acres, so I've got plenty of room to accommodate my hobby. I have mainly purebred birds and try to breed them as close to the standards as I can. I created this website to share my experiences and photos. Last Updated October 2011. 2011 Cluck N Waddle.
