http://coachpotato-trafficwatch.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html
Coach Potato's Traffic Watch. Wednesday, April 13, 2005. Corner of P. Tuazon and 20th street in Quezon City. Some time in the middle of 2004, I made a left turn on P. Tuazon going to 20th street, coming from Katipunan Avenue. There was a black Honda CRV in front of me so I thought. No, I didn't think of anything. So I asked the apprehending police officer after he asked for my driver's license, "What did I do wrong, sir? Yes" "Okay, I guess if what you are saying is true, give me a ticket then.". If you ...

Coach Potato's Traffic Watch. Tuesday, January 17, 2006. So many Filipinos who know how to make a car move, very few who know how to drive. Making a car move, and using it to get to where you want to go - that's not driving. Many Filipinos think they're so smart. Bad news kid, HINDI TAYO MATALINO! Oops, I forgot that Filipinos hate being told of their deficiencies. We don't like being nase-sermonan, kahit na mali tayo! So I made a maneuver to make sure I get the space. Kanina pa ako nagaantay para dito!

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch: April 2005

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch. Wednesday, April 13, 2005. PC Express (Katipunan): Strike Two? Two posts ago, I listed PC Express (Katipunan) to be one of some stores that add a surcharge to credit card purchases. I don't remember very well if indeed they do, so correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, if so, here's their Strike Number Two. I now remember buying a couple of things worth P1150 and P800.). So I did not DEMAND a receipt. The thing is, THEY DID NOT PLAN TO ISSUE A RECEIPT IN THE FIRST PLACE. Anyway, ...

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch: September 2008
http://coachpotato-consumerwatch.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Coach Potato's Consumer Watch. Monday, September 15, 2008. I have stayed so far in five hotels in India, three of which are what I would call "Indian-style" hotels - the interiors are Indian. The rest are what I would call "Western-style" hotel. All five have complimentary breakfast. The last hotel I stayed in, this time in Mumbai, was quite new and it felt to me like a 4-star hotel from the inside, but from the outside, it is really a 3-star hotel. It's $160 per night. Very expensive for a 3-sta...1 The...

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch. Monday, January 16, 2006. PC Options (Gilmore) - I never learned. My mom's computer had some motherboard problems, so I told her to buy an external hard disk enclosure so that we could recover her files. I was ready to park at PC Express (Gilmore), but my mom said we should go to PC Options instead. Two things at the back of my mind: the same guy or family probably owns the two stores so who cares, and not PC Options again! Damn But I still won't get my feet on the bandwagon.

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch. Monday, October 06, 2008. Cafe Coeli (Timog Ave.) v.s. Brewing Point (Tierra Pura), both in Quezon City. We tried this new start-up place, Cafe Coeli, and well, here's the good and the bad. 1 I like that it's a startup. 2 I like that there's free WiFi. 3 The food they have tastes good but is not great. This maybe a sign of things to come for their franchise. However, as Mara said, people don't come there to eat. But I thought, the food occupies 1/2 of their menu! 6 The iced...

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch: July 2010

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch. Monday, July 26, 2010. DHL as rapists of already murdered victims: Confirmed. Boycott DHL! You can read again about this whole ordeal we had to contend with here: http:/ carbonaramara.blogspot.com/2010/07/not-smiling-at-dhl-and-bureau-of.html. The customs receipt was only around 900 pesos! I heard from other complaints that fees you pay to DHL for "customs charges" are larger than through other carriers. (Refer to links I posted in the earlier posts.). Automatically paying ...

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch: March 2009
http://coachpotato-consumerwatch.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Coach Potato's Consumer Watch. Friday, March 27, 2009. Canned fish and similar products. Some canned fish (tuna, sardines, milkfish/bangus) that i just recently bought now has "Nutrition Facts" on their labels. If you read closely, their Nutrition Facts say that one serving of their product contains sodium that is 25% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA). one would think that going above 100% is not good for health, so if you're only consuming 25%, you are still 3 cans away from unhealthy. Canned fis...

Coach Potato's Consumer Watch: The Philippines' Bureau of Customs: Corruption Den & Cultural Killers?
http://coachpotato-consumerwatch.blogspot.com/2010/07/philippines-bureau-of-customs.html
Coach Potato's Consumer Watch. Tuesday, July 20, 2010. The Philippines' Bureau of Customs: Corruption Den and Cultural Killers? There is an international treaty called the Florence Agreement to which the Philippines is a signatory. It basically calls for books to be duty-free; that is if they are imported, no duty taxes are to be levied by the Bureau of Customs (or equivalent) of each respective signatory country. To tell you the truth, I am very, very angry about all this. This is one thing I hate about...
