Learning to sew. | cobble, cobble

Piecing it all together. Laquo; Cobbling a life. Cobbling around the house. I’ve been trying to dive right into sewing. There’re so many things I want to make. One of my first projects was this ruffled felt pillow— How About Orange. Has a tutorial. Despite how easy the project is, I wasn’t quite able to make my ruffle straight. So, I’m learning…. I found a really cute bag on Made By Rae. I learned how to do pleats for the first time with this project—how exciting! Feed You can leave a response. You are c...

Piecing it all together. My sister fondly (I think) calls me a cobbler for my tendency to make stuff and/or claim, “I could make that! I’m embracing that name here. Cobbling is a mindset. It’s a way of taking the pieces in life—leftovers and layoffs, scraps and seeds—and putting them to use in a meaningful way. Sometimes you have instructions and plans and tutorials, and sometimes you don’t. Either way, there’s satisfaction in the homemade and the homegrown. Feed You can leave a response. I loved all the...

Piecing it all together. Laquo; Grosgrain aprons. My husband the cobbler. So far, we’ve been off since Friday at noon…. With a new storm coming tonight, it’s debatable whether we’ll go back to work this week at all. I don’t mind being snowed-in one bit. There’s so much to do! For one thing, I have more time to practice with my camera. I’m experimenting with the long lens and depth of field. Lisa and I went down to check out the creek. I made this Amy Butler Snow Mum pillow. Feed You can leave a response.

Piecing it all together. Laquo; Snow play. My husband the cobbler. Matt and I are a good team. I get ideas for stuff to make around the house, and he uses his gifts of precision and spatial reasoning to execute my designs. He just finished these cabinet doors for the built-ins in our living room…. I have a weird fascination with the knob collection. On snowy days like today, Matt makes his family recipe for Snow Cream. You’ll need 1 cup sugar, 1 can evaporated milk, and 1 tablespoon vanilla. February 22,...

Wednesday, August 25, 2010. We had a great week of relaxing, drinking, eating, beaching, pooling, cooking, reading.good times. Here are some pictures of the fun:. Here is our beach fort, it was pretty great, plenty of shade, which I took full advantage of. Also used my beach umbrella bag which worked great! Me, under the umbrella, big floppy hat, sunglasses and SPF 50! I'm not getting burnt! Would love to be able to go back to the beach w/ friends and family asap, but will have to wait till next year :-(.

Wednesday, May 16, 2012. I Conquered My Camera! Monday I took a 3-hour workshop called "Take Your Camera Off Program Mode" presented by Okello Dunkley. I've had my DSLR camera since Christmas, but every time I've ventured away from "Auto Mode," I've ended up with dark or blurry pictures. About a month ago I saw this workshop offered through Living Social, so I decided to give it a try. Afterall, the price was right. It was SO worth my while! What do you think? Not bad for a first try. right?
eizzil20: Awesome Saturday
http://eizzil20.blogspot.com/2011/05/awesome-saturday.html
Tuesday, May 10, 2011. It was held at the Howard County fairgrounds, and a major part of the event is agricultural and basically farmers that have sheep and produce wood/lamb meat and whatnot showing off their animals and having demonstrations on sheep herding, sheep shearing, and other animaly things. I was there for the yarn! This woman was just camped out spinning her own yarn. She was also wearing socks she knitted! These little guys are Angora Goats. I pet a few, they were soft! The white yarn is th...

Friday, March 23, 2012. Reclaim Your Free Time! Culturally, there's now a vision of work without end as the central focus of one's existence- but leisure is a crucial part of the American Dream.". To reclaim our free time- and enjoy it- 'shifting our standards is critical. our expectations that we can get everything done are totally out of sync with our lives.' We would be happier if we prioritized time for ourselves. Thursday, March 22, 2012. PS: I just realized that this month marks my THIRD ANNIVERSAR...

Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Today on the beach. These books really are easy reads, and the story keeps you interested and wanting to keep reading. Despite that, I am going to take a quick break and read something else before moving on to Eclipse. That is, if I don't miss the characters and story line too much. H.G. Wells' The War of the World. Journey to the Center of the Earth. Oh, and since I was going to be in the car for 8 hours I decided to try a book on CD. I got A Thousand Splendid Suns. Shhhhh, don...
Beeps 'n Rays: Custom Curtains
http://beepsnrays.blogspot.com/2012/04/custom-curtains.html
Monday, April 9, 2012. Take a look at our sun room before the curtains. The fabric is perfect and my crew of workers couldn't have been better! My mom and I sewed for a day and a half straight (it was a LOT of fabric to deal with) and then my hubby and dad hung the curtains for me today. Aren't they cute? Whimsical, light, and airy, just like this room should be. I would be remiss if I didn't also mention that I followed a tutorial. For the faux Roman shade. Labels: House and Home.
