Serving Charminster and Charlton Down. Charminster Cemetery is located in Weir View, Charminster. The land was purchased for burials in 1896. The original cemetery was around 5,600sq.m. During the 1990’s as the cemetery was approaching capacity part of the adjacent allotments to the west was purchased adding a further area of around 2,000sq.m. The play area is owned by the Parish Council and has been on the existing site around 40 years or more. Serving Charminster and Charlton Down. The Paddock Land where the Community Orchard is situated was purchased by the Parish Council in 2004. The 6,000sq.m. site was a piece of option land previously owned by the health authority and passed onto Bellway Homes as part of the development site. Following a grant of 4,850 from Awards for All, local children planted over 150 trees creating the community orchard. There are a mixture of apple trees, pear trees and plum trees in the Orchard. Serving Charminster and Charlton Down. Millers Orchard was created in 2003 on a small piece of land in Mill Lane, Charminster previously owned by West Dorset District Council. The 950 sq.metre site was planted with a variety of local apple trees. The trees were planted by small groups to represent the wider community. Serving Charminster and Charlton Down. The allotments at Charlton Down are owned by the Parish Council. The land was purchased in 2007 and the first plots were cleared in 2008. They are now all fully occupied. The Charlton Down Allotment Society manages the site on behalf of the Parish Council.
