They open the stores from 7pm-midnight, and offer 15% off the marked price of everything in the store. And if you spend more than $20 you get a t-shirt, hat or canvas bag. They have to employ extra staff to control the crowds. Only in Pohnpei. The police even turn up help with the car parking.

Christmas time gives us an opportunity to say thank you to the local staff that have been employed to clean our houses, maintain the grounds and provide 24hr security. It generally turns into a invitation to at least three generations with kids and grandkids everywhere. The smiles were everywhere and I don't think my ears have recovered from all the screaming yet.
