Don’t wait for something to go wrong before you start classifying, assessing and mitigating the risks to your IT systems. As IT Manager for a small manufacturer I developed a simple framework for IT risk management (you can read about it in this TechRepublic article. PCI DSS: It's time for an isolated PC for payment processing. Over the past 18 months I've delved into the implications of version 3.0. Of the PCI DSS security standard. My knowledge is already out of date. Because version 3.1 came out in April this year. So there's more research to do!
