Animal Rearing, Sewing Skills, and Education. Early in 2010, COFAPRI introduced an animal rearing project, starting with one pig and 3 rabbits. Women are now generating a significant income from animal-rearing, which enables them to contribute towards household costs and school fees for their children. The first steps towards economic empowerment. In August 2013, COFAPRI initiated a Sewing Skills Programme, which trains women and girls from rural areas in sewing activities. The animal rearing project began early in 2010 with just one pig and three rabbits. COFAPRI members who participate in this project are provided with a piglet each. When this pig begins to reproduce, the women sell the piglets (this is also the process with other animals). Thus, the pigs that the women breed provide an income. Side Benefits - Fertilizer. Animals are also used for meat, either to eat or sell; hens are also used for eggs. There is still need for getting construction funds.

Congolese Females Actions for Promoting Rights and Development (COFAPRI). COFAPRI is a locally-based grassroots organisation in the rural villages of South Kivu, Eastern DR Congo.
