The great outdoors in the smallest state. A month of monarda. July 23, 2015. THIS is Jacob Cline. Much redder in person. Below is a wider view of it growing against the house. I bought a new cultivar last year, and it has turned out to be the earliest bloomer in my Monarda collection. It’s called “Purple Rooster” and it is rather short, so I have it at the front of the border. It’s slightly gone by, but the photo below will give you an idea of how purple it is. The great outdoors in the smallest state. A month of monarda →. July 18, 2015. HerbDoc sings the praises of Kolkwitzia. Here’s an old fashioned shrub that was extremely popular in the fine gardens of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Kolkwitzia, or Beauty Bush, is a dense, twiggy, fountain-shaped shrub with pink tubular flowers that appear in late May to mid-June. When not in bloom, the plant is rather nondescript. It has yellow leaves in the fall and is deciduous. If you plant Kolkwitzia, give it plenty of room!

I Am Mostly Made of the Potomac River. And You? Newer posts →. Into Innana — Part 1. August 19, 2016. By August, she was noticing that she had more stamina. When she and Virginia took each other’s blood pressure, as they did before their monthly Girls’ Night Out at The Shack, her numbers were as good as they’d ever been. She was sleeping better, too. She’d been a nurse too long not to recognize that carefully-neutral face and that soft, serious tone. Miss Feb, First of Her Name. August 18, 2016. HereR...

Idyll Haven: November 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 7, 2013. It Was a Good Year. Here in my CT zone 6 garden, the beginning of November typically finds me up to my knees in fallen leaves and frost blackened foliage. All my beloved tropicals have either been tucked into the garage awaiting a move into the house or long departed to the big compost pile in the sky. Don't get me wrong, by most standards garden season had been over for a few weeks. Compared to July this view of my patio looks downright bleak. However, I can't remembe...Someh...

Huh Of course. Well, I used to be made of artesian spring water filtered through slate and shale in the Appalachian mountains. Now, maybe this is why I feel out of sorts. It’s not geography. It’s being made of something new and maybe not consciously integrating it. November 2, 2014 at 10:27 am. Enter your comment here.

From the honey pot over the table. And out the door and over the ground,. And all the while it thickens,. Grows deeper and wilder, edged. With pine boughs and wet boulders,. Idyll Haven: April Bloom Day Arrives Kicking and Screaming
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2015/04/april-bloom-day-arrives-kicking-and.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2015. April Bloom Day Arrives Kicking and Screaming. Wow, what a winter! Persistent cold, snow, ice right through March and into early April. Did I say cold? That being said, the pickens are slim. Even the Hellebores have been reluctant to show their faces. Usually Iris reticulata blooms in Mid March here and is done by now unlike Miss Survivor who appears to be here to stay. Good old 'Arnold Promise' Witch hazel has been blooming since mid March, within a day of last year. Too b...
