Saturday, 17 March 2018. Tudor groats and a bag seal. Last Sunday on a club dig I was fortunate to find two Tudor groats, the second time I have found two hammered coins in one day. Both are very worn as is usual with coins of this period. In addition they have suffered from plough damage. They are both about 25mm in diameter. Groats were worth 4 pence. On Friday morning I met Mark Colvin at Chantry Hill. We saw just one Common Blue and a Small Heath. There were plenty of Red-fringed Conches, a micro moth. Mark spotted a Bloody-nosed Beetle larva, an amazing looking creature. Early Purple Orchid, Orchis mascula. Herb Robert, Geranium robertianum with pollen beetles. Whitebeam, Sorbus aria.
