Notes on Emergent Learning. As part of updating the wiki on agile learning. I've been reading up on Emergent Learning. As long ago as 2004, Michael Feldstein was arguing that "Emergent Learning" is an oxymoron. Here is the nub of Feldstein's argument:. Remember this: none of the ants has learnt, or knows, the strategy, but collectively they can put it into action. If you look at the case studies in this recent Special Issue of the. International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning. On "Emerg...

Contingency Research Platform

Contingency Research Platform / Distributing the knowledge. Project looked at how the destruction of an office could lead to the emergence of other possibilities. Such collapse might allow you to become a bouyant researcher, a kayak-based traveler paddling through waves (outlands that were previously forbidding or inaccessible, or that are now encroaching). Using medieval technology (encaustic tiles in two tone earthenware), I duplicated my 'instructable'. Rather than undertake the construction of kiln a...

The Bucky-Gandhi Design Institution. Framing The Collapsonomics Practice. Bull; March 9, 2009 • The Global Picture. Bull; 11 Comments. There is a summary of this post here. Most of the people working on collapse scenarios are working from the current state and trying to maintain essential services at about the current level. I listen to a lot of podcasts. They virtually are all sponsored by either MailChimp or Emma (some new Mailchimp clone). What I want to know is why spammers (even opt-in, targeted email marketing solutions are spammers as far as I can tell) find that podcasts are listened to by their target market (i.e. other spammers). Hmm Maybe I should be spamming more…. March 3, 2015. March 3, 2015. The practice part seemed ridiculously complicated and pointless. Why go to all that effort to write something down?

Laquo; Round-up of talk and interviews. Reflections on Longplayer Live ». Progressive austerity and self-organised learning. A month or so ago, my friend Guy, whose children are educated at home. Guy was having a go at me specifically — I neither support nor participate in any formal lobbying activities in education. But I couldn't escape the fact that a good slice of my consulting income comes from public funding for educational initiatives and new technologies. We're all programmed to learn. What's mor...
