My Own Way Through Cape Town: Settled In
http://myownwayct.blogspot.com/2011/10/settled-in.html
My Own Way Through Cape Town. Two years, a MPH at UCT, bridging a long distance relationship, finding a job, finding feminism, learning, learning, learning, and keeping in touch with the folks I love back home. Wednesday, October 19, 2011. I should probably stop apologizing at this point for the length of time between entries.but I will try to be better! I am incredibly excited about the impending visit (I leave in less than five weeks! The people and the food. :). But, as I said, I've been making more n...

My Own Way Through Cape Town. Two years, a MPH at UCT, bridging a long distance relationship, finding a job, finding feminism, learning, learning, learning, and keeping in touch with the folks I love back home. Saturday, April 21, 2012. Mom and Dad in South Africa. I hope that April weather in the States is as lovely as it has been here. We've had a week of high seventies and sun that seems to say summer is holding on. The biggest news that I have to report is that my mom and dad came to Cape Town!

Maximobo: Pause & Rewind: Scared of What? Part II
http://www.maximobo.com/2012/09/pause-rewind-scared-of-what-part-ii.html
Monday, September 3, 2012. Pause and Rewind: Scared of What? My last post was about being scared during pregnancy, and basically covered the primary issue of fearing what kind of a parent I will turn out to be. In terms of fears during the pregnancy itself, as soon as the two lines on the pregnancy test revealed themselves on the little white stick, then the first fears kick in. Of miscarriage. Approximately 75% of all miscarriages occur in the first trimester. Which awarded me a miscarriage probability ...

Maximobo: June 2012

Thursday, June 28, 2012. Pause and Rewind: Generic Shwedagon Monsoon Visit. Another trip to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. Another 50 photos. Each time you leave feeling you've seen it in a different way, or spotted something new. I've never been during the rainy season, nor in the middle of the afternoon. Generic Photo #1: The pagoda itself. View from the North Entrance (my favourite). Generic Photo #2: Someone sleeping. Praying is tiring. The site is used as a picnic area and dorm. Google translate it...

Maximobo: Yangon Days: Back to the Future
http://www.maximobo.com/2012/08/yangon-days-back-to-future.html
Sunday, August 26, 2012. Yangon Days: Back to the Future. When I was 15 I was given a bicycle for my birthday (how original! I rode on it everywhere, and mastered the art of not falling off whilst drunk (which I used as recently as yesterday). And SPDs, though it was frankly a waste of time in suburban Manchester when noone cared about cycling in the UK and I kept on falling over at traffic lights). It's so beautiful that you could even get a tattoo of it on your leg. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

It was inevitable that I would like Delhi, as its not Dhaka. One of the advantages of living in the 2nd worst city in the world is that. Travelling in. Myanmar: Shwedagon's 2600 Birthday Party. In a lot of countries I’ve visited, the principal religious site celebrating its 2600 birthday would be accompanied by a special celebrati. Since 2001 I’ve li...

Maximobo: August 2012
http://www.maximobo.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Pause and Rewind: Scared of What? One common question throughout the pregnancy has been: aren't you scared? The answer has evolved over the 35 weeks that we've experienced so far, and can be broken down most simply into: yes (up to 12 weeks), no (13 - 26 weeks), I want to go on holiday (27 weeks), when is it coming (31 - 35 weeks), yes (now). Of course I am scared. Things that I have worried about have included:. The baby will be beautiful, so that is not a worry. The day after ...

Maximobo: Travelling in... Myanmar: Ngapali Beach
http://www.maximobo.com/2011/12/travelling-in-myanmar-ngapali-beach.html
Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Travelling in. Myanmar: Ngapali Beach. My issue with the Bay of Bengal is that it is basically the emptying point for water that started out pristine in the Himalayas, but has since descended through some of the dirtiest countries and cities in the world. Living in Dhaka and smelling the sulphuric wretchedness of the Buriganga (don’t worry, it goes away in the monsoon), or seeing the body disposal that takes place in the Ganges in Varanasi. Ngapali Beach in Myanmar changed all...
