Preserving the Memories of a Proud Tradition. Our vision is to make Collier’s logging museum the best in the world! Preserving and stabilizing our treasured artifacts is an ongoing project, as is organizing the displays so that they lend themselves to accurately interpreting the history of logging over the years. These artifacts are a key to preserving heritage, but the real key is the story behind the artifacts. If the story is lost, the artifact becomes not much more than a curiosity piece.

The Steam Engine 1890s-1940s. Around the turn of the 20th century the steam engine. Changed the face of logging forever. Steam locomotives, or Loci’s , were used, and for the first time a large, economically profitable transportation network was possible. This transportation network helped create expanding markets outside of local areas. In later years, machines such as the McGiffert log loader reduced the amount of time it took to load logs onto railroad cars. Welcome to our Museum. Plans for the Future.

Don Leavers, who was such an important member of the dedicated volunteer group who rebuilt the old Parsons Mill, passed away in 2003. We shall miss him greatly. Don was a Korean War Veteran. I became involved twelve years ago when Lowell Jones, museum curator, found one of my husband’s tugboats and acquired it for the logging museum, says Jean Puckett, longtime Friends of Collier Park treasurer.
