Patagonia is mainly flat. The Andes only form a spine in the part that separates Chile and Argentina. So, whilst the main attractions were mountains we traveled over 2,000 km on mainly dirt rutted roads. What did we use to do this - a mighty four wheel drive? No, a small compact Corsa that had seen better days with bits missing and no power steering. Our physio guy is no doubt rubbing his hands with glee! Mount Fitroy in all its Glory. Yogi and Boo hike to Fitroy. We arrive in El Calafate in the snow.

Having missed Chicago on the first trip I decided to visit on the second trip. Luckily, Jon had to work in Atlanta for a couple of days so he joined me in Chicago, where we explored this wonderful city and caught up with some friends. Despite it's reputation, the Windy City wasn't all that windy. In actual fact the weather wasn't what we expected at all. The first day was nice, bright and warm and then a cold snap seemed to bite - leaving us in our jeans and jumpers for the rest of the the stay.

The last stop on the World trip and wow what a place to finish up. Well, after a pretty hectic day of travel I arrived in Shanghai and first thoughs were By God, is it big! My bags eventually came out on a carousels which seemed to have bags on it from a flight that landed 4 hours previously - I guess I was just lucky! Once the bags were rescued it took a 2 hour drive thru' the city in dense smog to get to the hotel. The Surprises of Shanghai would have to wait 'till morning.

Despite being silly Jon was released from custody with a thank you from the airport security. Apparently it doesn't do to fill in four hours waiting for your delayed plane by taking photos of the airport, no matter how much it looked like Terenure College. Security was tight anyway, with poor old Boo being forced to go through security by himself a second time.

The standard route for the Indian Pacific line is to go via the Blue Mountains, but due to work on the lines we had to re-route around them. After a well needed shower and bite to eat, we headed out to Whimsey.
