골롤반 (Columban) 이름의 뜻은 ‘하얀 비둘기’입니다. 그리스도의 나그네 로 고향인 아일랜드를 떠나 선교활동을 시작, 유럽의 여러 지역에서 현지인들과 함께 살면서 신앙을 전파. 하고, 쇠퇴하던 그리스도 신앙을 다시 일으켰습니다. 성인은 그리스도 안에서 그리스도와 하나 되기를 바라며 자신의 전 생애. 를 바친 위대한 선교사였습니다. 유럽은 당시 이름만 그리스도 지역이었을 뿐 신앙생활은 전혀 볼 수가 없었습니다. 골롬반과 동료들은 주민들의 신앙고취를. 위한 활동을 시작하면서 프랑스 뤽쉐(Luxeuil)에 최초의 수도원을 세우고, 안느그레(Annegray)에 폐허가 된 다이아나 사원을. 수리하여 성당으로 개조하였습니다. 골롬반은 뤽쉐에 머물며 591년부터 약20년 동안 220명의 수도자를 양성했고, 20명의 성인. 을 배출했습니다. 또한 수도원 부속학교를 설립, 7세기 가장 명성을 떨치는 그리스도교계 학교를 만들었으며, 베상송 교구의. 소신학교 (현재 성골롬반신학교로 불림)을 세웠습니다.
