Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: April 2014
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Thursday, 3 April 2014. Bravo Vs Gracie 2. With all the reviews and follow on from Metamoris 3 one of our guys, Andy Whitelam, asked me to do a ‘Currie Breakdown’ of the Bravo v Gracie match. This is not an depth review, there's guys who can do than better than me so it won't be too technical but it's the key points as I remember it. Back to Metamoris 3 and the much awaited re-match starts as Eddie shoots a vicious double leg………. Ok, time for real review;.

Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: Happy anniversary to me part three
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2014/03/happy-anniversary-to-me-part-three.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Saturday, 22 March 2014. Happy anniversary to me part three. BJJ tourneys were not yet to hit the UK so we dived into competing in Ju Jutsu Kumite [1]. Anything that had even the slightest bit of grappling especially Judo and Ju Jutsu Kumite. Even one stripe” I said no, he was my professor now and I was waiting for him. So he promoted me to blue belt and to make things even better, Helen was promoted too. We then threw ourselves more into training than e...

Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: Death Touch Paralysis Arm Bars
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2014/04/death-touch-paralysis-arm-bars.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Tuesday, 1 April 2014. Death Touch Paralysis Arm Bars. I have been studying new ways to apply the basic arm bar and delved into the world of meridian lines and pressure points. After years of detailed research, mainly hidden away in a cave, I found that at the junction of meridians I8U and 4Q2 there lies a spot that causes immediate paralysis and causes the arms to stiffen. Once I have activated this I set up the regular arm bar. Combat Base NE blog.

Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: The Times, They Are A Changing
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-times-they-are-changing.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Monday, 6 October 2014. The Times, They Are A Changing. Take a look through the television guides these days and you will see MMA on mainstream TV, not just the flagship events but local shows too, something many of us thought we would never see especially with the attitude of the media back in the day but as Bob Dylan prophesised “the times, they are a changing”. First of all, a TV show named Calendar interviewed our hero at his place of work and were t...

Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: March 2014
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Saturday, 29 March 2014. The meaning of the Combat Base UK logo. I was reading a post about someone designing a logo for a BJJ group and I'm not sure I ever explained fully how I came about designing our most coolest of logos. First thing I wanted to avoid was the triangle, a much used symbol in BJJ, I had a theory about it being a pyramid rather than a triangle as in 'pyramid scheme' but that's for another day. At the appointed time he opened the grave ...

Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: October 2014
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Thursday, 9 October 2014. WWID - what would I do. I recently watched a world renowned black belt teach a double underpass that was supposed to have amazing details but I thought he missed out quite a bit of important information. Then I watched another world renowned black belt teaching a scissor sweep and again I didn’t think it was that great, some critical details missing. If so, then why and how? I know some people see it as a waste of time and think...

Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: September 2013
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Wednesday, 18 September 2013. De La Riva Guard Grip Strip. Following on from the previous post about the ankle grip, this short clip covers removing the grip. Make sure that you lower your weight by squatting and not leaning over. Reach down outside the leg and grip the lower edge of the hand, right by the little finger. Curl the hand upwards, don't pull. It is a manipulation of the hand not a strength move. Remember, think 'curl' not 'pull'. At 019 the ...

Combat Base Jiu Jitsu: October 2013
http://combatbase.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Shout outs, quotes, thoughts, ramblings and so on. Friday, 4 October 2013. The smaller person would be wise to try to avoid a 'strength' type grip strip, where you grab the hand and try to pull off the grip, strength versus strength rarely works for the smaller guy, we need to consider hitting the grip off. Less strength and more dynamic. When you have stripped the grip do NOT let them have the hand back or they will simply re-grip, palm their hand away setting up a clear path for you to take control.
