Thank You, Red Ball! The Improv Retreat 2015: “I’d rather be here.”. I’m home from The Improv Retreat. I got home a few days ago, ready for one of my last hectic work weeks of the summer, when a bad vaccine reaction knocked me off my feet for a few days and FORCED me to rest up from camp. Thank You, Red Ball! Picture Book Improv: Blue Hat, Green Hat. This year, inspired by Bill Arnett’s post about reading Richard Scarry books as Harolds,. I started kicking off improv class with a picture book. My middle school students were, in theory, too old for picture books. (I’m not sure anyone’s too old for picture books, actually.) One-dimensional AND long-winded. Bonus. Thursday, July 23, 2015. Not a whole lot of talking in this one. Our third rehearsal was about group work and bonding. Even though we all play in the same troupe, ComedyCity. S cast is huge—which means some players barely know each other. And that calls for super-physical and emotional stuff. YAY.
