Beans, Means & Possible Dreams: March 2013
http://beans-means.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Beans, Means and Possible Dreams. Just another writer in the ocean of blogs, sharing thoughts and ideas and hope during this challenging time. Sunday, March 31, 2013. In my younger years, I was basically a lazy, undisciplined person. I grew up with the attitude that if something didn't come easy for me, I would have little to do with it. Or if it made me uncomfortable or didn't show immediate results, I would quit too soon. What a sense of empowerment! I was so proud of myself, I started mowing everythin...

Shelf Mouse: August 2013

Sunday, August 18, 2013. SEKS in the Classroom. It's so important for all of us to get someone to proofread our writing before putting it out there publicly, whether in print or online, and I have several nightmare scenarios to back that up. This is the most recent one. Pronounced 'teeks'): Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Lists for each grade level in the State of Texas. I'm sure every state has its own version of the TEKS or common core standards. Trying to keep the ego in check since I had single...

Shelf Mouse: January 2013
http://shelfmouse.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 28, 2013. My favorite teacher was an oxymoron. I couldn't tell you the names of 95% of the professors I had at college, but I'll never forget Norm Looney's name. Isn't that a great oxymoron? Looney taught drawing at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State). In San Marcos during the late 1970's, and I learned so much more than drawing in his class that I have been able to apply in other areas of my life. Thank you, Norm Looney, wherever you are. Monday, January 21, 2013. It's in ...

Saturday, December 29, 2012. Just in Case You Haven't Heard. Often parents assume the school is teaching their children everything they need to know about life, and educators assume parents are training their children in all those areas of life knowledge and skills that aren't covered in textbooks and coursework. But in reality, too many children are missing out in learning a number of life lessons or they learn them the hard way or wrong way. So far the packets include subjects about:. I'm just about fi...

Beans, Means & Possible Dreams: Pretty Patties
http://beans-means.blogspot.com/2013/08/pretty-patties.html
Beans, Means and Possible Dreams. Just another writer in the ocean of blogs, sharing thoughts and ideas and hope during this challenging time. Monday, August 26, 2013. My sister makes the prettiest hamburger patties before cooking them. Mine are never round, and often pieces fall off before they're finished cooking. But I finally came up with a way to make the nicest patties. Take a nice-size plastic container and cut about an inch from the top to make a plastic ring. I used to hate buying bulk ground be...

Shelf Mouse: Sometimes Education is just Hard Work
http://shelfmouse.blogspot.com/2013/09/sometimes-education-is-just-hard-work.html
Sunday, September 22, 2013. Sometimes Education is just Hard Work. If we've trained our children to learn only. I had managed every aspect of a public library for nine years. But since I didn't have a master's degree in library science, I wasn't allowed to do real. One of the most demanding jobs I ever had was working as a paraprofessional at a high school while I worked on my master's degree in the evenings so I could eventually do real. I can't tell you how many times I thought of that through the years.

Beans, Means and Possible Dreams. Just another writer in the ocean of blogs, sharing thoughts and ideas and hope during this challenging time. Monday, January 28, 2013. Habits: Good and Bad. We are what we repeatedly do, therefore, excellence is not an act, but a habit. -Aristotle. I somehow grew up thinking that I had to be in a certain mood in order to do anything:. Clean my room,. Read a book,. Play the piano,. Learn something new,. Do any chores,. Create art, etc. I earned a bachelor of science degre...
