Environmentally Friendly: Crossing the border is for the birds
http://renswords.blogspot.com/2007/02/crossing-border-is-for-birds_05.html
Monday, February 5, 2007. Crossing the border is for the birds. Last fall, President Bush signed the Secure Fences Act. That will provide close to $2 million to build a 700 miles of fence along the US-Mexico border. Environmental and humanitarian activists and other agencies and groups in opposition of the act seem to think the term "fence" is a dire understatement (some compare the notion to the Great Wall of China and the Berlin Wall in both physical and political light). Will be threatened by a wall.

Mexican Tourists: Objectivity: Going the Way of the Greek Gods
http://mexicantourists.blogspot.com/2007/04/objectivity-going-way-of-greek-gods.html
They are only here to spend money. Monday, April 09, 2007. Objectivity: Going the Way of the Greek Gods. This semester, I have learned that objectivity is not as easy as that. I think my best example of my change came last week, as we were covering the St. Andrews Clinic, a clinic on the U.S. side of the border that provides free healthcare to people from the Mexican side of the border. And it freaks me out. But I am still freaked out. Posted by Amanda H. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Borders o...

Mexican Tourists: Citizenship Through Taxes
http://mexicantourists.blogspot.com/2007/04/citizenship-through-taxes.html
They are only here to spend money. Monday, April 23, 2007. Taxes were due last week and I, like so many people, was stuck giving good ol. Uncle Sam my hard-earned cash- in this case, $63 to the Arizona government. I only hope that they use some of it to give more funding to the universities. Illegal immigrants are using their taxes to build a foundation in the American system, so that when they do apply for citizenship, they have a background to pull on to bolster their case. However, thanks to wild gene...

Mexican Tourists: Tucson: Because It's Closer to You Than Any Other American City
http://mexicantourists.blogspot.com/2007/02/tucson-because-its-closer-to-you-than.html
They are only here to spend money. Monday, February 12, 2007. Tucson: Because It's Closer to You Than Any Other American City. While not the most eloquent welcome message to potential Arizona tourists, my dad's blunt message gets the point across for which so many visitor centers aim. The Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau has taken the general idea and molded it into an invitation to come and see all that Tucson has to offer. The second picture, of the Mexican tourists in Tucson (really!

Mexican Tourists: March 2007
http://mexicantourists.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
They are only here to spend money. Monday, March 26, 2007. The Lure of Border Retail. One of the biggest draws for people from both sides of the border crossing into the other country is shopping and the chance to buy things that they can't get in their own country or things that are difficult to get in their own country. Generally, what people from the U.S. buy when they visit Mexico is very different from what people from Mexico buy when they visit the United States. Local American artisans as they are...

Monday, March 26, 2007. Breaking News: Rap star saves parched and desperate immigrants. This doesn't have anything to do with my topic, but I found it on my quest for clips this morning. Environmentally Friendly: Hiking the border
http://renswords.blogspot.com/2007/03/hiking-border.html
Monday, March 19, 2007. When recently planning an afternoon hike on one of Coronado National Forest's trails that neighbor the border, I was expecting to see some action. You know, wildlife.I researched the trail page. Keeping these minor details in mind, I decided to pick a trail outside of Sonoita in the Santa Rita Mountains, a safe 30 miles or so from the border. I still recommend this trail to anyone hoping to "get away" for an afternoon and walk among the sycamores. Flagstaff, AZ, United States.

Environmentally Friendly: Environmentally friendly...
http://renswords.blogspot.com/2007/01/crossing-border-is-for-birds.html
Monday, January 22, 2007. I grew up in a very environmentally conscience household in Flagstaff headed by two Forest Service Employees, and complete with solar panels, a vegetable gardens, recycling bins and even.ugh, cloth diapers. To complete the stereotype, my family has owned three Volkswagen buses and my dad even grows his own hops to create his own homebrew. Is a government agency that everyone should be aware of, most people's response to my new job was, "you're working for a florist. Intended to ...

Mexican Tourists: February 2007
http://mexicantourists.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
They are only here to spend money. Sunday, February 25, 2007. Wait, Why Are You Here Again? So I went searching for reasons to come to Arizona. I started out at the Arizona tourism websites, but everything seemed so contrived and forced that I started looking somewhere else: YouTube. I figured that if I wanted a good example of what people actually do when they visit Arizona from Mexico, the best place to look would be a place where they could post videos of their trip. In all of the visits, she visits t...

Environmentally Friendly: Who gives a hoot?
http://renswords.blogspot.com/2007/03/httpwww.html
Monday, March 26, 2007. Who gives a hoot? Doesn't everybody have a cause these days? Sunday afternoon, I was flipping through the channels on TV in a sleepy state of boredom when I passed by an image of a man in a khaki and olive green colored hat standing in what looked like the edges of a landfill. Actually, he was an Arizona Game and Fish. Pull the curtains please! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Intended to enlighten you all on border issues with an environmental and ecological twist.
