We decided to more closely examine text-based questioning – one of the six shifts from the Common Core. As a resource, we used an Evidence Based Questioning handout with an explanation of the rationale and some specific examples of various types of evidence based questions. With "Kindergarten Round-Up" coming in a couple of weeks, we looked through handouts that have previouisly been shared with parents. We compared the handout, which was updated last year, to the Common Core. We found general alignment but felt that we could improve upon the presentation/organization. Considered the need for more nonfiction text in reading program and noted a high percentage of the texts on A to Z are nonfiction. Looked at Common Core Alignment section available with some of the text. Level I, was an example of a text for which this is currently available. Selected a Level B text to examine as a group.
